Chapter 27

Carlos's P.O.V

             When we got close to the enchanted lake I carefully tied a blindfold over Phoenix's eyes so she wouldn't see anything. Needless to say it confused and frightened her a little " Carlos what are you planning " she asked with a playful tone in her voice with a small smile on her face " You'll see. You trust me right? " I said taking both her hands and leading her towards the lake as she giggled her cheeks gaining a pink tint to them " Yes " she said as I smiled before stopping abruptly and taking the blindfold off her. Phoenix gasped covering her hands with her mouth as tears pricked her eyes " Oh Carlos this is...." she started but trailed off causing me to get nervous " Do you like it? " I asked hopeful as she turned to me tears streaming down her cheeks as she pulled me in for a slow passionate kiss " I love it!! You planned all of this for me? " she asked as I scratched the back of my neck " Of course I did, but I had a little help from Ben,Mal, Evie, and Jay I must admit. I figured we could spend your last night together before you go off to college " I said intertwining my hand with hers. We walked down to the lake together taking in the peacefulness of the night. I was going to make sure this night was absolutely perfect, only the best for her...she was my everything.  We sat down on the blanket and began to eat as soft music played in the background " Carlos, honestly you didn't have to do any of this for me " Phoenix said softly looking down at the ground. 

      I lifted her chin locking eyes with those beautiful chestnut brown eyes that I have fallen so deep in love with. Everything about her was perfect and I wanted her to know that " Phoenix, I wanted to. You mean everything to me and I will go to the ends of the world to prove to you how special you are to me. " I said caressing her cheek as she leaned into my touch with a smile on her face as her eyes sparkled. The sun was beginning to set giving off a beautiful scenery while stars started to dot the sky. It was silent between us and we had a conversation with even speaking. I got up holding my hand out to her " May I have this dance? " I asked as Phoenix smiled taking my hand standing to her feet " Yes you may " she said as a slow song started playing adding to the mood.

       After the song was over I just held her close to me hearing her soft heart beat as the moonlight shown on the both of us. I didn't want this moment to end. I didn't want this night to end, because I knew tomorrow she was gonna be leaving me and I wasn't ready to watch her go even if it was gonna be for a short time. She looked at me sensing that something was wrong " Carlos, I'm everything but ready to leave tomorrow. I don't want to leave you, but I have too and I want you to know to not worry about me leaving you for someone else because that's not happening ever. I love you and only you " She said as I smiled kissing her temple as we watched fireflies light up the  darkness. I only had tonight before she left for college, but after that I'll my whole life with her and I honestly couldn't wait for the day I can officially call her my wife. She laid her head on my shoulder " We are still kids but we're so in love, fighting against all odds I know we'll be alright this time " Phoenix sang softly looking up at me her eyes holding that twinkle in them " Darling just hold my hand be my girl I'll be your man. I see the future in your eyes "  I sang the next verse as she shifted laying her head on my lap while I played her hair.  

        She smiled as her ears flattened and her tail flickered causing me to chuckle getting lost in her eyes once again for the 5th time tonight. Phoenix stared back at me as she fiddled with the engagement ring on her finger " Baby I'm dancing in the dark with you between my arms, Barefoot in the grass Listening to the our favorite song " She continue to sing softly waiting for me to continue the next part " When I saw you in that dress looking so beautiful I don't deserve this, Darling you look perfect tonight "  I sang as my fingers absentmindedly ran through her soft red hair sending her into a relaxed state " I think we should be getting back it's getting late " she said as I nodded getting up and we began to walk back to the bike. I drove us back home not ready to say goodbye, not ready for this night to end. When we got back to campus, I dropped of the bike and began to walk her home listening to the cricket choir playing in the background a feeling of dread in my stomach. We reached her doorstep hand still intertwined as we stared deep into each others eyes " Carlos, I just want more night snuggled up next to you before I leave tomorrow " She said as I nodded letting her pull me in the house and lead me to her bedroom. 

        She changed out of her dress into her pajamas as I began to take my shirt so I could at least be a little more comfortable. Phoenix climbed in bed snuggling closer to me as I wrapped my arms around her, feeling her tail wrap around me. Her ears flattening as her breathing steadied slightly " Goodnight Carlos, I love you " she said sleepily before falling asleep as I smiled stroking her hair " Goodnight Phoenix, I love you too " I said continuing to stroke her hair until eventually I fell asleep.
