Chapter 19

Phoenix's P.O.V

      By the time we arrived at Fairy cottage it was already dark out. Ben,Mal,Evie,Harry, Uma, Jay,Carlos, and I stood low in order to not get caught. Janis, Gil,and Doug were given the task of finding Fairy Godmother so it was just the 7 of us sneaking into Fairy cottage. Ben held Mal's hand while Carlos held mine not even daring to let go as we headed towards the gate. I notice Mal held the Ember in an iron grip ready for what may come next. The others soon followed and Ben burst the door open expecting to see Audrey, but she wasn't there...no one was. Jay went to check up stairs to see if there any signs of Audrey while everyone else looked around, observing the inside of the cottage, but all we found was nothing " She's not upstairs " Jay said as he came down the stairs. Thanks to my skilled hearing I heard an intense banging come from the closet causing my ears to bend back towards the noise as my tail flickered. I pulled back an arrow aiming towards the closet, my eyes were narrowed and my fangs were barred as I snarled at the noise. Ben opened the door to see Chad inside the closet causing me to let my guard down and but my bow and arrow away. Chad was curled up and holding his knees together, he seemed petrified and completely traumatized...he was also shaking nervously. I squeezed Carlos's hand since he knew what it was like being locked in a closet for hours on end " Chad? " Ben asked looking down at Chad, who started stammering and his words were incoherent. I rolled my eyes reluctantly letting go of Carlos's hand and reached out to Chad as Ben did the same. 

        Ben smiled at my change of attitude towards Chad, because used to I couldn't stand him and I still can't but I was still my Father's daughter and I would show some compassion to people even if they did get on my nerves or if they didn't deserve it. Chad immediately flinched like he had been beaten with a stick. When he finally stood up, he looked around at his surrounding " Ben? Phoenix? " he asked straightening up before looking at me with an apologetic look " Phoenix, I'm so sorry for everything I ever said to you....and even after all I said you still tried to help me, you truly are you're father's daughter " he said as I smiled before patting on his shoulder " I see you've finally done your research on my family " I said as Chad turned to Ben getting closer to him " Your face...she's gone. I'm free. Freedom! " Chad yelled running out of the cottage causing me to laugh a bit to myself " I bet that's what you were mentally saying when you first came here wasn't it Babe? " I joked turning to Carlos who looked at me with a playful glare " Oh shut it " he said as I put my hands up in surrender while Harry started laughing and closed the closet door before everyone made their way of the cottage to look for Audrey " Whoa, Alright. Let's get this Audrey chick taken care of already " Uma said causing me and Mal to let out a laugh. " What do you say, girls time to wrap things up? " She continued  and fist-bumped Mal and sent me a smile " You know, someday, you got to tell me how you guys teamed up. " Ben said putting an arm over Mal's shoulder. I smiled slightly remembering how we all teamed up " Actually, Mal promised to let the kids off the Isle once this over " Evie said as I nodded leaning my head on Carlos's shoulder. 

        Suddenly Mal stopped walking and turned to us with a guilty look on her face " I have to tell you something " She said abruptly even guilt laced her voice " Uhm I lied to you. The kids wont be coming off the Isle " she finally confessed as Carlos and I looked at each other and the pain written on his face almost killed me, but what shadowed the pain was confusion. It was silent, but only for a second " What do you mean? " Jay asked confusion written all over his face and his tone was thick with it " The program's shut down and the barrier will be closed for good " Mal replied and honestly I felt my chest tighten as Harry gripped his hook tightly and grunted. He was angry and disappointed at the fact that they were helping us safe Auradon for nothing after all and to be honest he had every right to be angry " For Auradon's safety " Ben added quietly but it was loud enough for us to hear. I had conflicted emotions, I didn't know whether to be sad or angry " Hold up " Uma spoke up walking closer " we're saving your precious people and your behinds for a lie? I knew it was mistake to trust you. You're always out for yourself..." Uma said before looking at me the same look on her face " Did you know about this? " she asked as I put my hands up in surrender " No, I didn't know anything about this. I didn't know they were even planning on doing this. I'm just finding out about this like you are " I said truthfully still not knowing what I should feel at this moment  " And you king Benny, you're probably just going to throw us all back inside " Harry said standing close to Ben with a disappointed look on his face as Celia walked up to Mal " You know what? I actually thought that you were brave, You're nothing but a chicken too scared to tell me that I'm never gonna see my daddy again " Celia said tears forming in her eyes as she grabbed the ember from Mal and threw it in some water nearby before walking away. 

      Mal grabbed the Ember from the water as it smoked and sparked " No! " she said holding the ember in her hand " Regain your might and ignite? " she yelled trying to get the ember to work but it didn't look like it was going to " Regain your might and ignite? " she repeated looking to Uma with pleading eyes hoping she'd help her. Uma pulled out her necklace with a serious face " Bummer, come one let's find Gil and Janis and let's go " Uma said before leaving the scene with Harry following close behind.  Mal turned to me and Evie with that same pleading look " Evie, Phoenix. I'm so sorry. I'm sorry, I just- I thought that- I was just afraid to tell you two. I thought I would lose my best friends, but we had to do something to protect Auradon " she said as I felt my nails turned to claws...this was her Idea! It frustrated me that she was willing to do that to all those kids. Evie looked at her a little hurt " Closing the barrier was your Idea? " she asked as Mal looked at her ready to cry " I did it for us. I did it for the life that we have here now? Phoenix, you can understand right? " she said as I growled closing my eyes trying to keep my cool " Do you not hear how fucking selfish you sound!? I don't understand why you have such an easy time abandoning those kids who don't have the life that you did. Not everybody was lucky to be feared like you were. We promise those kids that they would get the chance to live here in Auradon, the land of opportunity now we can't do that because of your selfishness. Honestly we can't keep living in fear, because you think that protects us from danger let me tell you something it doesn't. You see what's happening around us now, have not been paying attention. Well let me remind you, the Evil that's destroying Auradon right now was raised here not the Isle. I really hope you're happy with yourself because honestly I'm hurt emotionally hurt and not by you from Ben too. " I ranted tears ready to spill as Evie continued " For our life? What about those kids we left on that island? The kids we promised? we were their only hope. I thought you were gonna stand up for the Vks, but instead you lied to them. You lied to Jay, You lied to Carlos, You lied to Phoenix, and You lied to me. We're family " Evie said on the brink of tears. 

        I wasn't done yet the pain on Carlos's face fueled my anger as I made my way to Ben clearly frustrated. Ben looked down knowing that he was next to feel my frustration " You lied to me and I've been you're best friend since I moved here....I've practically been like a sister to you and not to mention been there when you needed help with something. I put your need above my own and did what ever you asked of me whether I had to or not and this is how you repay by stabbing me in the back and keeping secrets from me. You're the one that wanted that set this whole damn thing up and if it wasn't for your proclamation I wouldn't have met the love my life who has been through hell and back while living on the Isle. " I said trying to keep my cool while also trying to fight back tears " Phoenix I'm so sorry. I didn't mean to hurt you with my decision- " Mal started but I cut her off " No I don't want to hear it. You know exactly what you two were doing when you made this fucking decision. You were only thinking about yourself, Auradon needs to learn to stop running away from fear. That's all they've done, hide from fear. Why the hell do you think King Beast banned every fucking villain on that damn Island in the first place, because he was fucking afraid of them. I can't even look at either of you two right now  " I said starting to walk away but Mal grabbed my wrist " Nix, please let m- " she started but I yanked my hand away from her " Don't touch me " I said folding my arms across my chest with a angered look on my face " You know, If I recall I think I was a pretty good friend to everyone of you. I stuck up for you and snapped on anyone who dared to say anything bad about you, You remember family day when I clawed Chad's face and was about to sink my fangs in his flesh before my parents pulled me away because that's friends do for each other, but you know what they don't do? stab each other in the back and lie to each other " I said walking away ignoring the calls for my name just wanting to be alone until I had fully cooled down
