Day 14 - Someone You Drifted Away From

Dear Person,

I wish we didn’t drift away from each other, although it has been better since we have. We now have a ‘friendship’ where we can talk and have a laugh, but we don’t seek each other out for a conversation or hang out.

Two years ago, we were best friends. It was us two and then there was another girl who I grew a lot closer to when we stopped being friends. Anyway, two years ago school was a nightmare. We’d been best friends for three years and had our fair share of ups and downs, but we fought so much in grade 7 that it was hardly worth being friends even more. I would go home crying every day and you did the same. Our mums, being good friends as well, got us together one day and told us to discuss what our problems were with each other. There was a lot of shouting, swearing and crying, but after that we hugged it out and everything seemed good again… at least until something else happened and we’d be at it again. It was not a fun way to be at all.

I don’t even know how it happened… I don’t think it was because of a particular event or anything, but we stopped hanging out. I found it so incredibly had at first, but after a while I could see the positive effect it was having on me.

I still look back on our friendship with fond memories even after everything that happened. I’m happy we can both put our history behind us and manage to enjoy each other’s company still.

I used to consider you my sister. We spent most days after school together and every weekend having sleepovers. Our parents were best friends as well, and my little brother idolised your older brother. Your brother also treated me as a sister, which I sometimes hated, but I loved you all like my family! Your brother even used to introduce me to his friends as his little sister, so at school I’d have people coming up to me so I could pass on messages to my ‘older brother’. It was hilarious, I miss that a lot. In a way when we stopped being friends, I lost some of my family as well.

I will always remember when you and your brother stayed at my house for 2 weeks while your parents were away in Europe about 2 years ago. I was scared because it was around the time we were fighting a lot, but surprisingly we had the most amazing time! We didn’t fight once and it was really like you and your brother was part of my family. I was so surprised when your brother actually said that he wanted to stay with us as well when he could have stayed at any of his friends’ houses. He said ‘But I want to stay with my second family!’ That goes to show how close we all were, considering a very friend-oriented 17 year old chose to stay with us for that period of time.

I still miss you! No matter how far we grow apart, I will always remember all our memories with great happiness.

Love Em xx
