Chapter 19: Why?

"Who are you?" Gabriel asked Lila.

"Oh me? You don't remember? I'm Volpina. The one that was suppose to become a superhero? Any of this ringing a bell?" Lila steppes closer and closer to Gabriel.

"What do you want?"

Lila held up a ring of keys. "For you to help me. And you can't help me when you're cuffed like that now can you?"

"What makes you think I'll help you?"

"Maybe me giving you you're freedom. You being able to protect you're son." Gabriel gasped slightly. "And whatever you need those ridiculous miraculous for. So, do we have a deal?" Lila extended out her hand for a hand shake.

Agreste reaches as far as he could with his cuffed wrists and shook her hand.

"Deal."

Ladybug and Cat Noir made it to the Agreste mansion.

"Are you ready?" Ladybug asked.

Cat Noir took a deep breath. "As I'll ever be." He grabbed Ladybug's hand and squeezed.

Ladybug looked at Cat Noir to make sure he was okay. She then started leading him to what she wanted to show him.

Ladybug pressed the buttons on the portrait, felt the walls just like she did when she was there the last time, and walked forward to turn on the lights in the underground garden of sorts. Cat Noir stayed behind her.

They both walked across the bridge that led to the little island space that was on the other side of the room. Right before Cat Noir could see what exactly was on the piece of space, Ladybug stopped him with her grip on his hand.

Cat Noir looked at Ladybug and asked, "What's wrong?"

"I just- I don't know if I can see you after you see what is in that coffin. If you start asking questions, it will break my heart that I can't give you any answers. I'm just scared of what will happen to you emotionally if you see what it is."

Cat Noir looked at Ladybug and kissed the top of her hand. "I love you so much. You were strong enough to tell me the truth despite all of your fears. I am so grateful that you are honest with me. I promise you. Whatever it is, I'll still be here. Emotionally and physically."

Ladybug gazed lovingly at Cat Noir. "Okay."

He then started moving toward the glass coffin. He looked past the glass and saw what he wasn't expecting. He started shaking and gasping for air. He grabbed his chest and his knees hit the ground. Ladybug called after him and knelt next to him. She continued to speak to him but all Cat Noir could hear was muffled sounds. He stared at the coffin and felt awful. His heart ached, his eyes burned, and his body shook.

He then remembered something. He promised Ladybug that he would still be there for her no matter what it was. Physically and emotionally. He finally started to form words.

"Why?" He just kept saying that over and over again. "Why? Why? Why? Why! Why!" He looked down at the ground. "Why?" He quietly asked one more time and then started to cry.

Ladybug started to tear up as well. "I don't know Adrien. I really don't know." She then hugged Cat Noir as tight as she could. "But we'll find out. We will find out. I promise."
