Chapter 4: The Collector Seen Differently

Adrien ran into his house and looked around. He didn't see anyone. He was about to go into Gabriel's office until he heard his name.

"Adrien." Hearing his name made him flinch and stop what he was doing. He looked up and saw Natalie on the top of the stairs. "You're father would like to talk to you in your room. Now."

Natalie made her way to Adrien's room and so did he. This wasn't going to be good.

Once making it into his room, he decided to sit down in his desk chair. His screensaver of his mother on his computer reminded him of what he needed to find out. Hawkmoth has a picture of his mother. It was something that he was scared but determined to find out the reason why.

"Natalie. Pull up the footage." Adrien glanced up. Natalie held a tablet and showed up security footage of him in his father's secret safe. "Why did you take the book?"

Adrien had to be careful. He wasn't sure if his father knew he was Cat Noir. He barely even noticed the ring he always wore. Maybe if he was lucky then he could get away with working his way around the fact that he's a superhero from time and again.

"I'm sorry. I thought it looked interesting. I wondered why it was also behind Mom's portrait. I thought you wouldn't notice."

"It's one of a kind and the source of my inspiration."

Adrien looked down. "I'm sorry. I didn't know how much it meant to you. I barely know anything about you Father."

"You didn't even try to mention that you're Cat Noir?"

So much for him not knowing. "I didn't want you to get hurt. If anyone found out who I was or who Cat Noir was close to, then the people Hawk Moth akumatized would target them. I couldn't take that risk."

"You won't be attending school anymore. You will be homeschooling from now on with Natalie."

Adrien looked up. "But father-!"

"No excuses." Gabriel, Natalie, and his bodyguard walked out of his room. As soon as they did, Adrien picked up his phone and started a text.

"Master Fu?" Marinette opened the door. She saw Master Fu in the middle of the room with his legs folded up.

"Hello again Ladybug."

Marinette made her way in the room with the other three that came with her behind her. "This is the guy that decided who Ladybug would be? Why not me?"

"Would you have same an old man from getting hit by a car even though you would lose what you had in your hand when you are also late for school?"

Everyone in the room looked at Chloe. "Uh...no. Maybe not." Chloe looked down.

"I also chose Adrien because he had a chance to go to school the first day. He was halfway up the stairs too. He decided to help an old man a few feet away to walk and in the process get dragged back home."

"That's why I didn't see him that day."

Marinette shook her head at the ridiculousness that Chloe was creating. "Anyways, Master Fu, we really need to talk to you about that book."

"Oh. The spell book?"

"Spell book? Oh I have to get this on camera!" Alya took out her phone from her pocket but Master Fu stopped her by putting up his hand.

"Please don't. We don't need anymore secrets spoiled." Alya put her phone up, pouting.

"Okay."

"Spell book? What do you mean by spell book exactly?" Marinette looked at Master Fu.

Master Fu stood up and walked over to where the book was. He picked it up and said, "This book is full of spells in a different language that can uncover unknown abilities and powers for both Ladybug and Cat Noir. I think I can translate some of it."

"Wow," All four teenagers said at the same time.

"I also think that whoever had the book could be Hawkmoth, who could also have the peacock and butterfly miraculous."

"Wait what?" All four teenagers grew shocked and nervous. If that were true then that would mean Gabriel Agreste, Adrien's dad, could be Hawk Moth.

Marinette turned to the other three. "We've got to get Adrien. Master Fu thank you for your help! We'll investigate and be careful. I promise."

All four of them left the room. Master Fu stared at the door. He smiled.

The four teenagers started running to Adrien's house when all of their phones went off. They pulled them out and saw the text from Adrien.

"What? He can't go to school anymore?" Alya freaked out.

"Why?" Nino asked.

"Why do you think?" Chloe started to sob way more than what would be necessary.

"He says it's because of the book and being Cat Noir." Marinette looked at her friends and Chloe. "We need to get that book back."

"I would try and see if you can get ahold of Cat Noir. Maybe that's going to be easier to get to talk in person than Adrien." Marinette looked at Alya. She had a point.

"Okay. Here goes nothing." Marinette opened her purse to have Tikki come out. "Tikki, Spots On!"

Once Marinette was Ladybug, Alya took a picture and Chloe took a selfie with her. "Finally! I got a decent picture with Ladybug!"

Ladybug rolled her eyes. "Well let's see if I can track down that cat." She jumped up on the nearest roof and started running across others. She stopped and started to call Cat Noir on her yo-yo.

"Has the cat got your tongue? Leave a message!" Ladybug rolled her eyes at her partner's outgoing.

"Cat Noir! I think I have an idea who Hawk Moth is! You may not like it. Meet me at the roof of the school! Hurry!"

Ladybug then started swinging towards the direction of the school.
