Chapter 2: You Heard Me
"One more day guys." I practically squeal to my two best friends as we all walk up the enormous hill of my neighborhood."I know, it's so exciting! I think all the guys are dressing in the school colors." Kennedy says as she puts down her pink longboard when we reach the top.
"I love wearing blue, but green totallyyy clashes with my aesthetic." Levi says turning on his go pro and placing on the helmet that only he wears. He claims that falling off of his board could potentially disfigure his "beautiful" face. He aggravates the crap outta me but I guess I love him anyway.
I just roll my eyes at my bestie. Kennedy puts up her fingers to count down as Levi hits the record button.
She starts to yell, "Three! Two! One!" We all push off starting down the massive hill. I stand goofy on the board swaying from side to side as we all pick up speed. The adrenaline is kicking fast through my body, a smile plastered across my face. I take in the dying sunset as we speed down, reaching our top speed. I do a spin on my board and turn to my friends. Kennedy starts howling clearly enjoying her ride, Levi smiling wide along with her. My hair is whipping all around, my mind running wild along with it. The view of the city we once saw at the top slowly disappears as we make our way to the bottom. Everything around me goes quiet when I ride, all except the sounds of my tires gliding across the pavement. As we all reach near the bottom Kennedy and I start dancing on our boards for our Caboose to catch on tape. When our boards slowly reach a stop I hop off reaching for it. I turn to my friends,
"That never gets old," Kennedy states with the biggest grin that I am sure Levi and I are sporting too. She reminds me of the many times we three have rode together. Summer after summer, on days it wouldn't rain, and on every vacation. We took our boards everywhere, occasionally riding them to the dinner when we weren't in a rush.
"It's exhilarating," Levi breaths out. It really is. The quiet you experience, your mind completely captivated. You forget all your problems for a few seconds only taking in the feeling of the speed you are reaching. The wind rushing past you along with your environment. It's only seconds, yet the slowed time makes it feel much longer.
"Let's go again!" We all say at once. I break out into a laugh and my besties join me. I love these guys. I think to myself, a smile lingering on my face as we walk up the great hill once again.

The buzzer sounds loud overhead, making my blood begin to bubble and stomach turn. Warmups. I find Sam to start peppering. The stomp of the bleachers surrounds me, the cheering hyping up our team. I break a sweat as we pass.
Bump. Set. Spike!
Our rally slowly improves. The shots are getting harder, the sets getting more accurate. My thighs begin to feel the burning sensation I am so used to, yet never complain about.
Bump. Set. Spike!
Both of our breaths are quickening as the warm up comes near an end. Sam is doing amazing with her sets, perfect hands. It eases my turning stomach, giving me a bit more trust in her for the game ahead of us. The buzzer sounds again. Seattle high has the court for their own warm up. My team huddles up, coach goes over rotations that we had already discussed at yesterday's practice. I zone out thinking of the game plan.
Our two best back row will be in the whole time, Kailey and Izz. Our best blocker and tallest girl, Teagan will be outside. Lacey is setter for the first set, and Sam as optional for the second. I would be in right side putting Anna, our right back, behind me. The best lineup we've got. I know we've got this win. The roaring crowd pulls me from my head just before coach looks at me.
