It's a dark night. Only a slimmer of the moon tries to break through the trees and shine its light on the forest floor. The animals are quiet. Watching from the sideline at what's disturbing their night. I groan as I try to stand up again. Ignoring the pain in my back. Indicating my wings are most likely severely hurt. Before I can scramble my thoughts together I get thrown on the floor again. My brother Chasten sitting on top of me as he hits me square in the jaw. I try to block his punches while simultaneously getting from underneath him. Somehow I manage to plant my elbow between his ribs. Making him yell in pain. In the distraction I jump upright and draw my dagger. I whisper its name and it grows into a large pitch black sword.
"What is going on?" I demand to know as I look at my two brothers. They don't reply, but draw their swords as well. Never before have I feared one of my own, but I know they won't back down until I'm dead. I know too much even though it feels like I don't understand anything at all. They attack me at the same time. I move swiftly out of Chasten's reach as I try to block Birrol's sword with my own. In the time I need to do that, Chasten regains himself and tries to hit me again. This time I'm too slow and he cuts my arm. I feel sweat droplets on my face as I try to fight them off for as long as possible. I know there's no way out, but I won't let them believe it's easy to take one of their own out. All three of us look up when we hear a horse stop nearby. A man calling out.
"Hello?" He sounds like a young grown up male. Birrol rolls his eyes as he turns back to his task at hand. Killing me. I let out a frustrated scream of pain when he cuts my leg. The stranger comes in the clearing with sword drawn. Neither of us pay attention to the human. I, for one, am too busy trying not to die easy by my brother's hands. Chasten yells out in surprise when the stranger attacks him.
"Let him go." The man orders brave. Or maybe he's stupid. There's a very thin line when it comes to situations like this. Chasten turns around threateningly. He's no longer got eyes for me as he swiftly, with one move of his black sword, makes the other man's silver sword fly in the air. Away from him.
"Mind your own business." Chasten warns him. Birrol slowly starts to lose ground now it's a one on one fight. I feel a spark of hope until Chasten turns back around. I expected the man to run away, but instead he picks up his swords and jumps beside me in an attempt to push the other two back.
"Are you stupid?" I ask him astonished between clenched teeth as I block another one of their swords.
"I can't turn away from someone in need of help." The man replies. I don't have time to take him in. Chasten already blows a hit on his arm. The man jumps away in time, but starts bleeding heavily through his white attire. I don't have time to worry about him either. Birrol pushing me on the ground. I roll over before his sword stabs the patch of grass I was just laying on. I hear the man yelp in fear then and look up to see Chasten holding him down. Birrol takes notice of my distraction and hits me with the back of his sword in the head before slashing at my wings. A bunch of my black feathers rain down as I fall to the ground.
"Try getting back home now." He snickers before leaving me on the ground. He doesn't even think I'm worth finishing off. He'll regret that. I try to stay focused. Pushing back the burning pain in my wings and many cuts. The throbbing in my head. The shortness of breath. Birrol snickers when he sees how Chasten is holding the helpless man down.
"Let's have a bit of fun now we're down on this shit hole anyway." Chasten suggests. Birrol looks down at the man.
"You like having fun? Or do you just enjoy interrupting it?" He smirks down at him.
"Fuck you!" The man calls angry.
"Oh, no, you've got it the other way around. We're going to fuck you." Birrol replies as he points his sword against the man's neck.
"You're crazy." The man yells. Struggling to break free. Cutting his neck against the sharp blade in the process. Chasten hits him in the face with his fist before starting to undo the man's pants. I scrunch up my nose at the horrendous sight. How low have my brothers fallen?
"No! Stop!" The man yells terrified. Trying to kick and hit Chasten off. Birrol crouches down and holds his sword against the man's throat in a last warning.
"Hold still, will you?" He asks him sweetly. I can see the tears form in the other man's eyes when he realizes he can't defeat them.
"Please, no. No!" He shrieks when they start getting handsy. I push myself up right and stumble closer. I slash Birrol's back, but don't have enough strength left to do anything other than hurt him. Chasten sees me stand on my feet again and moves off the man who quickly pulls his pants back up and scrambles for his sword. My brother manages to stab me in the side and I gasp. He pulls back and dark red, almost black, blood is gushing on my shirt.
"Let's go." Birrol mutters as he tries to touch the wound on his back.
"He won't survive anyway." He adds. Chasten cast one last glance at Roman before nodding. Just like that they're gone. I ignore the longing to curl up and rest my head. Instead I stumble towards the man. He's bleeding severely out of several deep cuts. I rest my hands on it and feel the man stiffen as he looks at me with traumatized eyes. He just wanted to help, I realize. Feeling bad for the man. I close my eyes and focus not only on healing the worst of his wounds, but also erasing the memory of this whole ordeal. Humans aren't supposed to know about us. I focus specifically on the horrendous event of almost getting raped and move forth from there. I drop my hands exhausted when I can no longer focus. My vision turning black. I should've focused on my own wounds first. I realize too late as I start sinking in a dark hole.
