*Three Days Later*
Ed's POV
After these few days in the hospital, Taylor still has remembered nothing. She vaguely knows the lyrics to Lego House, but that's about it. I was hoping, irrationally I suppose, that it wouldn't take that long for her memory to come back, but of course, that hasn't been the case. She gets to go home today, and I'm more anxious than ever to see who she'll want to stay with, her parents, or me.
We were getting together our things that we had left all around the room, preparing to leave when the doctor came and told us we could. Taylor's parents had changes of clothes and books and reading glasses and newspapers and magazines and various different things scattered around that they had brought to keep themselves entertained. I, however, only had my phone, which had a very low charge since I didn't have my charger with me, and I never left for anything. Taylor only had her phone as well, along with the necklace she wore in the crash, which had been a gift from me back when we were dating. She also had the clothes that she wore previously, and she was just debating whether she should put them on.
"I might as well, even though they're a little torn. It's so cold outside, wearing a hospital gown will do nothing for me." She decided, and walked over to the bathroom, where she decided she would get dressed (even though her parents and I said we wouldn't mind if she changed out here), taking a step inside before letting out a shriek. I ran like Usain Bolt to her side, standing next to her in a matter of seconds.
"What's wrong? Are you alright?" I asked carefully, and she just gulped.
"My...my hair! It's so...short! What did I do to it? How long has it been like this?" She asked, scared, and I relaxed a little.
"Taylor, it's alright, love, you've had it like that for a long time now, and before that you still wore it long, but you had bangs, I'll show you pictures sometime. It's alright, I promise." I brushed the few loose strands of her hair out of her face and gave her a reassuring smile. She nodded, and I held my gaze for just a moment more before exiting the bathroom, hearing her shut the door behind me.
I wanted nothing more than to kiss her and hold her close like I would any other time she was scared or upset, I've been her comfort for so long, and now I feel like that's what she needs, but I just can't give it to her. She seems so scared and confused, everything is new and unknown and I want to calm her down and make everything better for her, but I just...can't.
She emerged from the bathroom a few moments later, wearing the same clothes that she had the day that was supposed to be our wedding day. It somehow seemed different though, aside from the few small rips and tears, it seemed unfamiliar on her. She too must've felt the same way, as she had an odd look on her face, but quickly removed it.
Taylor went and sat on the edge of the hospital, staring down at her fingers, before closely examining the engagement ring she had on her finger. "So this is our...engagement ring?" She asked cautiously, and I swallowed hard.
"Yeah. Do you still like it?" I asked, and for a moment, she was confused.
"Still?" She thought, then knew the answer. "Oh...I guess the me that knew you is what you're referring to." That hurt, but I nodded. "Well, yeah. I mean, it's a very nice ring, it's very beautiful." She said casually, and it tore me apart.
Taylor's POV
There was a pause after the discussion Ed and I had about our engagement ring (which doesn't really feel like it because I don't even know him hardly), before my mom spoke up. "Taylor, I know you probably haven't thought much about this, but who do you want to go with? I know you don't remember, but you and Ed have a house here, together, and of course your father and I still do. You could stay with us, in your old room, or you could stay at your place." She suggested, and I thought for a moment, before shrugging. I was curious to see what a house I had bought with my fiancé would look like, but I also wasn't so sure I wanted to stay with him.
