The following morning, Abby slowly wakes up and goes to the bathroom. She is still feeling very weak and sick, and therefore she takes some pills and goes back to bed. An hour later, Hope wakes her up again and starts rubbing her back.
"Good morning baby," Hope says. "How are you feeling today?"
Even if she is still sick, Abby decides to lie, since she doesn't want to miss practice.
"Humm... I'm feeling really, really, REALLY good actually," Abby says. "In fact, I am ready for practice."
"Are you sure you're okay? At least let me check your temperature first!" Hope replied.
"No! Don't... I mean, I've already checked it, I'm fine I promise."
And just like that, it's practice time and the team arrives at the stadium, where the players are split into two different groups.
TEAM 1: Hope, Kelley, JJ, Becky, Carli, Moe, Press and Abby as a sub.
TEAM 2: Ashlyn, Ali, Kling, Allie, Tobin, Crystal, Alex, Mal and Alyssa as a sub.
As the scrimmage starts, all the players seem really confident and put all their energy and strength into the game. They are perfectly in shape, healthy and focused. All of them but one. Abby, in fact, can't even keep her eyes open as she is watching her teammates fight on the field. 10 minutes go by and Jill proposes Abby to go in for Hope. Even though she is not feeling well, she accepts, in order to convince everyone that she is perfectly capable of playing even in the worst conditions. She makes her way to the net when her legs start to shake, and in the blink of an eye, everything goes pitch black.
AN HOUR LATER
Abby slowly opens her eyes and realises that she's in the hospital. She hears a loud sound and she notices that some of her teammates are asleep.
"Abby! How are you?" a very concerned Jill Ellis asks. "You fainted on the field. Are you alright? Why didn't you tell me you were not feeling well?"
"I just wanted to prove that I am not the baby of the team, and that I am as strong as everyone else, so I thought that showing you guys that I can play even when I have the flu meant something. I guess I was wrong and put everyone in danger and in a hard situation." Abby confessed.
After hearing her words, Carli gets up and makes her way to Abby's bed, calming her down and telling her that everyone has a great opinion on her and that she doesn't have to prove herself in order to be respected by the team, because everyone already respects and values her so much. Carli then exits the room to go look for Hope and she finds her in the hallway with Liam. She is crying and venting to him so Carli just leaves them some space.
"I feel so bad Liam. What if she doesn't wake up? This is all my fault. I should have seen that she wasn't feeling good. I'm her mother!!"
Shh, Hope, calm down. Now listen to me. This is not your fault and she will be fine. Everything will be fine."
"Are you sure? And moreover we're coming back to Seattle next week and I'm afraid she won't like the change. I'm not a good mother for her. She deserves better."
"Hope stop! You and I both know you're going to be a great mother. Plus, I'm always going to be there, because I care about you two."
Their conversation is interrupted by Carli, who tells them that Abby is awake and asking about her parents. As they enter the room, the team leaves them so that Abigail can spend some time with her family. Both Liam and Hope are just very happy and relieved to see that their daughter is doing okay. Hope gets quiet all of a sudden and Abby notices it, but waits until her mom speaks up to ask her what's wrong.
"Abby, we're going back to Seattle next week and you're coming with us." Hope said.
"But mom, why are you sad?" Abby replied.
"Because I know you want to stay here since you have your friends, your team and Luke...and I don't want you to hate me for making you leave the place you were raised in."
Mom, don't ever say that again.I'd rather leave this place that has given me so many bad memories than lose you once again." Abby added. "And yes, maybe leaving Grace, Zoe and Luke will be hard, but at least I'll be with you."
