First, understand this; at the beginning of this book and for the majority of it, Annika is manipulated and breainwashed by Hydra, things do change. Give it time. Thank you.

October 1943 Austria

It was rare for women to get respect in the 40's, they were used because the men weren't available but as she walked though the halls of the Austrian weapons facility people stopped and nodded their heads out of respect. She was HYDRA's pride and joy and any man who dared to confront her would be a fool. She entered the main work room and looked around at the prisoners doing the work they were assigned to do as she continued doing the task she was assigned to.

She walked round and observed, looking out for anyone who disobeyed. People gave her nervous stares and continued doing the work, that was until she spotted a man slacking off. Men watched as the young woman strode down the aisle toward the man who had stopped working. She simply stood, towering over his frail body as a wordless sign to 'keep working' but instead of obedience all she got was a tired smirk. A wannabe tough man who was too tired to be smug, a man who was shaking too much out of hidden fear to stand tall.

"Работай!" Work! She spoke loudly and irritated, he looked up at her, he couldn't see her face fully due the thick black muzzle-like lace mask that covered the bottom half but as he looked into her eyes, she could see the sweat that covered his face and the bag that hung from his eyes. She stood taller and lifted her hand in a threatening manner but had no intention of actaully hitting him.

"Please... please I can't, I can't do it anymore!" He collapsed in a heap on the floor, he had been here for a couple of weeks maybe but was eventually breaking due to the hard work. His blonde hair had dirted into a brown matted mess and usually bright skin and eyes had darkened due to the stress. She looked down in the man in pity. All she could think of was how pathetic it was.

"Работай! Теперь! Вставай!" Work! Now! Get up! The poor man looked up in confusion, she didn't want to use physical force yet if there was no need for it. She sighed in frustration. Her thick Russian accent left the men around her in shock, those at least who had stopped to watch; some in pity and some in anger.

"Get up now and work." She deadpanned in anger, the man flopped to the ground in exhaustion and sadness at her zero amount of sympathy for him. A cough could be heard echoing around the brightened room and everyone's head snapped toward Colonel Lohmer except the girls.

"Soldier. Take him to Arnim Zola. Tell him he has a new play pet." The girl reached down and yanked the weak man off the floor and dragged him too one of the labs as he kicked and screamed, he was light due to his lack of health. In the lab stood a small plump man with a concentrated face pulled as he stared at sheet of paper, his gaze snapped to the girl and man who entered the room and he changed his expression involuntarily to a confused one.

"Говори, солдат." Speak Soldier. The man barked, Arnim Zola wasn't a fan of being interrupted.

"У тебя есть новый игровой питомец, любезно предоставленный полковником Ломером." you have a new play pet, courtesy of Colonel Lohmer. She didn't say anything more, only threw the man onto the chair, strapped him down and left the room, only catching Doctor watching him with a wicked smile before she left.
