y/n's pov

it was the beginning of the school year where everybody is still getting use to their schedules. you know, that time where you switch classes and everything is still disorganized. junior year is suppose to be the hardest year because of the SATs which i was not looking forward to.

right now it's the 3rd day of school, the moment i realized this year was about to get whole lot harder. mattia polibio, the school's play boy walked into my class. he wasn't here the past 2 days so i'm guessing he just transferred to this class today.

i've hated his guts since freshman year because i'm such a feminist at times. the way he played girls pisses me off every single time. there'd be a new girl posting on her private story about mattia every week and it wasn't just the girls at our school either. i'm sure he hated me too but i can care less.

"i'm transferring to this class," mattia told our teacher.

"oh yeah we've had students switching in and out these past few days," he said. "name?"

"mattia polibio."

our teacher was looking through the attendance papers. "yup here you are, take a seat wherever you want. we'll have a seating chart by the end of the week."

mattia walks to an empty seat a couple chairs away from me and sits down. he looks to his left and saw me then rolled his eyes. yeah fuck you too man whore.

the teacher passed out the syllabus at each end of the table but mattia didn't pass it down to me and the rest of the students.

"mattia," i shout. "can you pass the papers?"

"sure thing." he slides the papers roughly and some them fell to the floor.

"pick it up," i say.

"you wanted the papers, you pick it up," he snaps.

"you dropped them, you pick it up," i argue.

"but you said to pass them, you didn't say how."

"cause i didn't know i was talking to a 3rd grader," i smile.

"oh wow you really got me there huh?" he was so sarcastic. it pissed me off.

"here i got it," another person behind us said. he picked up all the papers mattia dropped and placed it on my desk.

i turn around and look at him. "oh thank you for actually acting like you're in high school."

"sorry i'm not a little bitch him," mattia sides eye the boy.

"ignore him. he doesn't know what being nice and a decent human means," i tell him.

he chuckles. "yeah no worries. i'm Kaden."

"wait, kaden? oh my god you look so different," i state. "you're so much tanner now."

"yeah it's called the sun you tard," mattia cuts in.

"who?" i ask.

mattia scrunches his face. "what do you mean who?"

"no i mean who's talking to you?" i answer.

he laughs sarcastically and flips me off.

"uh yeah i spent my summer outdoors pretty much everyday," said kaden.

"well you look great," i compliment. "good for you."

"i've seen you around last year and i've always wanted to be friends and shit but i heard you hate people so i never approached you," he says.

"oh well yeah because some people can be annoying." i turn to mattia and look back at kaden. "but i'm down to be friends. unless you are annoying then i dont think it'll work out."

"i'll.. try not to be," he laughs softly.

"then we'll get along just fine."

"oh no way mattia's in your class?" my friend, nicole asks.

"right? lucky me."

"maybe he isn't as bad as you think," nicole mentions. "you should try and get to know him."

"woah, where is this coming from? you hated him more than me last year. what changed?" i question.

"well he's never done anything to us before," she points out.

"that's because we're not as easy as half of the girl's in this city," i reply. "wait nicole you don't think he's cute do you?"

"i-- well..."

"nicole," i shout. "why?"

"he got cuter over the summer okay? like he was ugly last year but now i see the hype with him," she tries justifying herself.

"their entire group has only one hobby and it's playing girls," i remind her. "every single year they make a bet on who can get the most girls and all these freshmen and sophomores are so excited that an upperclassmen is showing them attention that they'll fall for it right away."

"that's not their only hobby," she mumbles. "they got tik tok famous over the summer."

"you're fucking-- i'm deleting that app," i throw my hands up. "i've literally tried getting at least one viral video this summer. ONE."

"well they blew up from licking the same lollipop and passing it around." she shows me the video and i was completely unimpressed.

"show me mattia's account," i say. i watch nicole search up mattia polibio in the search bar and saw that he had 2 million followers. "bring back the tik tok before summer."

"on god, tik tok now is all about 'the hype' it's not fun anymore," nicole adds. "anyway, we should get to class."

"right, i'll see you later."
