y/n's pov
"you okay kiddo?" roger asks as he prepares the table for dinner. "you seem a little bit sad."
"you remember dylan? i told you about him one time," i reply.
"he's the guy you dated right? while i was in new york?"
"yeah him," i confirm. "we broke up around the end of july and today is his 1 month anniversary with another girl."
"and you're sad he moved on so quick?"
i nod. "i just didn't expect him to move on so easily you know? it makes me think that she's been there the time he was away."
"doesn't sound like he's worth your time y/n." roger and i finish setting up the plates. "maybe you'll find someone better this year."
"i guess." i count the plates and noticed there were only 4. "where's lillian?"
"she had to work late tonight so she cant join us," he says.
"i kinda don't feel up for dinner anymore," i sigh. "i wanna be alone."
"are you not gonna get hungry?" roger asks.
"i'll get a milkshake from james' diner or something," i shrug. "they always cheer me up."
"i'll tell your parents," he pats my shoulder. "don't get too sad over this okay? guys like him aren't worth being upset over."
"i know," i nod. "i just need a moment, that's all."
james' diner
"hey y/n," james smiles. "what's your order tonight?"
"just get me a vanilla milkshake," i answer.
"is everything okay?"
"yeah i'm just not hungry today," i laugh lightly.
"alright then, take a seat. i'll bring it to you."
i thank him and seat myself at a small booth. even though i shouldn't, i went back on snapchat and clicked on dylan's story again to look at the photo.
mattia's pov
i was on date with another girl at the diner until i saw y/n walk in again. holy shit she does come here a lot. she takes a seat a booth all by herself and starts going on her phone, looking a little bit upset.
"you wanna head back to your place?" my date asks.
"can you come over another time? i gotta do something," i tell her.
the girl looked annoyed but nodded and walked out of the diner. james and i approach y/n's table at the same time as he hands her the milkshake.
"hey," i greet her as i sit down.
"i'm not up for any arguing right now," she mumbles, playing with her straw.
i chuckle. "i'm not here to pick a fight with you... whore."
she rolls her eyes and smiles. "another date with another girl?"
"please save your fuckboy comments cause i really don't care," i say. "why're you here?"
"i wanted a milkshake," y/n answers dryly.
"you look a little sad," i point out.
"and you care because...?"
"i never said i cared," i scoff. "i'm just saying that you look sad."
"well thank you for your insight." she gives me a thumbs up.
"what's wrong?" i ask.
"nothing that concerns you polibio."
"how about this," i grab her milkshake and take a sip. "i'll comfort you on whatever your problem is-- like what you did with kairi when celia cheated on him, and then we go back to hating each other. deal?"
"you drank my milkshake," she pouts.
"deal?" i repeat.
"fine," y/n says. "deal."
and so she told me how her ex, dylan posted his 1 month with another girl. she talked about how sad it made her cause they've been together for 7 months and yet he moved on so quick.
"now i think that he didn't love me as much as he said he did," she frowns. "he was my first real relationship-- he was the person who taught me how to love. i just thought that i was the person who taught him everything too." she slumps back against the cushion and starts ripping the napkin into tiny little pieces.
"i'm not really good giving relationship advice so all i gotta say is that you're better than that." i yank the napkin out her hand so she can pay attention to what i'm saying. "he's not worth simping over. you're like one of the toughest people i know."
"you think i'm tough?"
"you're the only girl who hasn't slept with me and you don't care about what other people think of you," i laugh. "you're different than the rest." y/n smiles at my words and for some reason that made me happy. cause i was the one who made her smile.
"thanks for sitting with me," she says. "i should probably go back home."
"you better have enjoyed that cause i am never being that nice again," i tease.
"will we continue hating each other tomorrow," she nods. "bye mattia."
"bye y/n."
i didn't leave right away cause someone had to clean up her napkin mess. after i picked up all the little pieces i noticed that she left her wallet on the seat. she was probably already gone by now so i decided to just drop it off. it was a small town, everyone knows where everyone lives by now.
-
i parked on the other side of her house but before i got out, i saw the man from the school parking lot y/n was talking to the other day, walk out of her house. what was he doing at her house? at a teenager girl's house? once he drove off, i walked to her doorstep and rang the doorbell.
"mattia, what're you doing here?" y/n asks.
"you left your wallet at the diner." i hand it to her.
"oh shit, thank you," she says. "okay see you tomorrow."
"why was-" before i can my question she slams the door.
great.
