mattia's pov

"you guys wanna go to James' Diner tonight to get dinner?" i ask the boys.

"sure," kairi nods. "since when did you eat there?"

"oh i just wanted to try something new," i answer. "i went there yesterday on a date and it wasn't too bad."

"yeah i've been there once with my family, it was pretty good," alejandro agreed. "alright then around 7?"

"bet," i dap up kairi and alejandro and walk to the parking lot. when i approach my car, i saw y/n leaning against hers while scrolling through her phone. then a middle aged man walked up to her and they started talking. i've never seen him before but he came from the school so i guess he's a sub or a new teacher or something, but he looked too friendly with her.

i don't know why i got concerned for her, so i made my way to the two of them.

"ew, go away," she immediately says.

"hey be nice," said the man.

"no," she glares at me. "what do you want polibio?"

"uh, was there homework for 1st period?" i ask.

"we have project assigned tomorrow but that's about it. and get your syllabus signed," she answers. "is that it? can you go now?"

"yeah whatever," i roll my eyes. i look at the man before walking back to my car and he gave me a polite smile.

y/n's pov

"why are you so mean to him?" roger asks. "he seems like a nice boy."

"he's the scum of your male species," i correct him. "he is the reason i don't understand why i'm straight."

"that's... a weird way to put it," he laughs. "what're your plans tonight? you gonna be good okay at home by yourself?"

"since you and mom and dad didn't invite me to gambling," i remind him, "i guess i'll be fine."

"you wouldn't know how to play," he scoffs.

"well then i guess we'll never find out cause i'm not going with you guys," i cross my arms playfully. "okay i'm gonna head home now. tell Lillian i said hi." (his wife)

"will do," he nods, giving me a side hug. "drive safe and tell your parents i'll come pick them up later okay?"

i give him a thumbs up and watch him get walk to the teacher's parking side. i was glad that roger was back-- he's like family to me. growing up i always saw him as another father and i remember crying when he and his wife moved to new york.

as i open my car door, i saw mattia at the left looking at me in his car. when i made eye contact he quickly looked away and drove off. weirdo.

mattia's pov

later that night...

James' Diner

a part of me wanted to tell the boys about y/n and that man i saw at the parking lot today, but i didn't. what would i even say? it was wrong of me to think of such weird thoughts when i didn't know the whole story. maybe i'll ask y/n when she comes here. yes i admit i only wanted to come because i knew she'd be here so what?

"mattia you good?" kairi nudges me. we were sitting in a booth and alejandro sat across from us.

"huh? oh yeah i'm fine," i sit up straight and look at the menu.

"dude remember last year when dana was obsessed with you," alejandro reminds me.

i roll my eyes. "can we not talk about that? that was like one of the scariest moments of my life."

"she wrote a poem about you and presented to the class," kairi laughs. "you should be flattered."

"y'all were the ones who dared me to hook up with her, i hate you," i shake my head.

ding

the bell above the door rang, indicating someone was walking in. just as i thought it was y/n.

"hi james," she smiles at the owner.

"i didn't know y/n ate here," said kairi.

"yeah me either," i lie.

"so what're we having today?" james asks her.

"can you get me some onion rings please? and a strawberry banana smoothie?" she requests.

"sure thing. aren't you suppose to eat with some guy name kaden?"

"shh, let's not talk about that," she shuts it down.

"alrighty." he walks to the back kitchen.

y/n turns around and made eye contact with us. "seriously? two days in a row mattia? this is my spot eat somewhere else."

"you... saw her here yesterday?" alejandro whispers suspiciously. "i thought you didn't know she ate here."

i ignore him. "well what if this is our new spot?" i tell her.

"can you at least come at different times?" she whines. "i don't wanna see yall every single time i come here."

"deal with it," kairi smiles.

y/n rolls her eyes and walks back to the counter.

"i need to ask her about homework," i say standing up.

"what? uh okay," alejandro mumbles.

"hey," i walk up to her. y/n looks at me and then back at her phone. "a 'hey' back would be nice."

"hey," she answers sarcastically.

"who was that man you were talking to earlier after school?" i ask casually.

"you'll find out soon enough," she replies. "on friday."

"oh okay, is uh.. everything okay?"

she shoots me a weird look. "why wouldn't it be?"

so how do i say that he looked like he was getting too friendly with her without accusing someone of anything..

"just asking," i shrug. "okay later loser."

"okay.. weird ass," she scrunches her face.

once y/n gets her food and leaves, the boys immediately start asking me questions right away.

"what was that about?" kairi questions. "did you ask us to come here cause you wanted to see her?"

"what? no you rat fuck-- stop being ridiculous. i didn't know she came here regularly okay?" i state. "if i wanted to see her i would've just came here by myself."

"okay damn chill out," alejandro laughs. "we were just asking."

"are we ready to order?" kairi puts the menu down and alejandro and i both nod.
