I was utmost taken aback as well as my friends that sat there. Even the other Head Monarchs seemed surprised. I refrained from giving a questioning gaze towards Cress as I stood.
"Might I ask why?" I asked him.
"Your ability would be of utmost useful in this situation," Cress simply stated.
My ability: seeing others emotions and intentions. The truth. He wanted me there for the suspects to question them. I already knew such. It wouldn't be the first that I used my ability for this.
So, I nodded my head, "Very well. When shall we meet?"
He was punctual with his response, "I'd actually like to speak now."
Then Hongjoong stood beside me, "With all do respect, Cress of Dawn Court, I would like to request my assistance alongside Star of Night Court."
I spared a questioning glance towards Hongjoong. He gave me a worried glance back before focusing his eyes on Cress.
"I believe that won't be necessary, Shine of Southern Court," Cress responded, "I only require Star's presence."
Hongjoong appeared on edge as he took his seat. I knew he was just looking out for me, but, with tensions as high as they were here, he'd most likely appear utmost suspicious.
"If I may instead," Yeosang spoke. Now this truly made me shocked. I didn't think Yeosang would put himself out here like this, "I have insiders across the lands and I believe my resources could be of utmost importance to your investigation, Cress."
I could see Bongju displaying a similar shocked expression to mine.
Cress appeared to consider this before he spoke, "Your resources supply sufficient insider-information. If I were to allow your resources into my investigation, however, how much information that they attain will truly be reliably informed to me first?"
Yeosang seemed calm, as if he expected this response, "I can assure you, my resources will be dispatched for your use and your use alone during this investigation."
Cress was silent for a moment longer, "As useful as your offer appears, I'll have to decline. Right now, I only require Star's assistance."
I nodded my head as I asked, "Shall we?"
Cress looked at me then and I got the same warm feeling inside me. This warmth that I didn't naturally have but wanted. It appeared that I wanted nothing more but to stare long into his eyes. His beautiful dark eyes. Was I falling for him? No, I'd never fall so easily for someone, especially when they're as suspicious as him. He'd also just dealt with the taking of his lover. He'd never love someone other, I'm sure.
"Guards," Cress nodded his head as he turned around, "The rest of you are dismissed. Star, if you will."
"Of course," I spoke as I walked after him. I spared a glance back to see Hongjoong starting after me. He was trying desperately to hide it, but I could see the worry in his eyes. Was it fear? I gave a small reassuring smile before looking away. I was almost on the verge of breaking my own rules.
We didn't walk far as we found our way to a room. He gestured to the guards to stay outside. That appeared odd as I figured they'd be positioned inside. Perhaps he found them suspicious even? Something wasn't right. I held up my guard as Cress used his magic to open the door to the room. He gestured for me to step inside to what appeared to be a normal office. I admired the rustic layout of the room with the oak wood and flowers swirled into the walls of them. There were other symbols alongside them. I took a closer look at the symbols- no, runes. But rune marks were only used for spells. I could feel panic rising inside me as the atmosphere changed.
I turned around to be met with a force knocking me onto the floor. I looked up as adrenaline ran through me to see Cress's eyes glowing gold. The rune marks along the wall were also glowing gold- a gravity trap. He was looking down to me.
"W-What are you doing?" I barely breathed out.
"You're the entire reason that entire massacre played out," he snarled.
"What?"
"Don't play dumb with me. I know you're involved with them."
I was confused. Was he saying I was involved with the incident that took place in his Court?
I could feel the weight of the magical enchantment pressing me onto the floor. It was beginning to hurt. That's when tears began forming in my eyes.
Wait.
Tears were forming in my eyes.
That never happened. My eyes were always glued open with nothing to cause them to close. Not even tears.
"Now tell me-" But Cress was interrupted when the door burst open.
"Cress of Dawn Court!" someone yelled.
I could barely see from where I laid on the floor but it looked to be that this was a man slightly shorter than Cress. His features were sharp. He wore a purple-magenta suit and his hair was a light purple brown with one side of his hair dyed violet which was tucked back in a short side braid. His eyes were a dark blue and formed the expression of panic.
"Choi San, how dare you interrupt me when I'm in the-" but Cress was interrupted again. However, this he wouldn't get mad about as San uttered his next words.
"The Takers! They're here!"
Ayeeeeeee, so I iz back :)
Shorter chapter but things are about to pick up in this story...
