Cress and I eventually agreed I'd prepare myself to move to the Dawn Court temporarily for the investigation. I tried pushing for at least a week of prep in my own Court but we'd eventually settled upon three days.

It wasn't awhile before I was back in my own Court— the Night Court. Nanny and I walked through the corridors of the palace, leaving the other delegates to recover from the massacre elsewhere in my Court.

I groaned as I gazed back to the stubborn old woman behind me, "You need to stay here, Nanny. I can't allow you to be in danger while I'm at the Dawn Court."

She scoffed at me for that, "I will not be in danger. I can take care of myself!"

I didn't hesitate as I rolled my eyes. She wasn't letting up, that's for sure. So I gazed at her then with the gaze of a High Monarch, "You're staying here and that is an order from your High Monarch."

I never went against Nanny like this but it was for her own good. She knew very well she couldn't go against the word of a High Monarch. Yet, she still narrowed her eyes at me. We stayed like that for a while before a voice from down the hall disrupted our silent staring contest (one I'd obviously already won).

"Star!" his voice shouted from down the corridor.

I looked over to see the tall man in silver cladded armor similar to what I adorned running up to us. His black hair sagged in his eyes as his silver eyes looked towards me relieved. He was already breaking many rules that any guard should abide by but I'd let it slide. I couldn't help the smile that came onto my face as the great Captain of the Guard of the Night Court approached.

"Jeong Yunho, a pleasure to see you doing well."

He'd finally made his way to us not bothering with the small talk I'd tried to bring up, "We heard immediately of what was happening in the Dawn Court. Any death toll?"

I shook my head, "There were no casualties among our Court. We're quite fortunate, in fact."

He nodded his head as he offered a small smile, "That's good to hear. It's also good to see you in one piece."

I allowed a little chuckle, "Close to one piece. I took quite a blow to the back."

Yunho let out a chuckle, "You did?"

That's when Nanny cleared her throat, interrupting us, "Captain, formality please."

I rolled my eyes, "Nanny, we're in our own Court. I trust my Captain with the information I give him."

Nanny gave me a look I knew far too well. I was breaking a rule— a rule that had been built from my ancestors from millennials ago. I wasn't allowed to befriend lower classed people. That included the Captain. As good as he was at his job, he still resided from a lower class family. The rule angered me. I might as well overthrow such a rule but Nanny had warned that it would bring chaos to the Court. Nanny left then, leaving only the Captain and I in the empty hall.
