Chapter 13—Babe

{ a u t u m n }

          “I told you! I freaking told you!”

          I rolled my eyes at Danielle’s excitement, although I couldn’t help but smile as well. Luke had actually asked me out, and that seemed a bit crazy to me. We had gone from practically despising each other to kissing and then now going on a date. How the hell does that happen?

          “Calm down, Danielle. If I didn’t know any better, I’d say you were more excited than me,” I added teasingly, lifting up my hair to tie into a lazy, messy bun before I looked at her, only to see her stick her tongue out at me.

          “Shut up,” she replied, bouncing on my bed on her knees. “What are you going to wear? Is it fancy or casual? Did he tell you anything?”

          I blinked at her questions, before replying, “He told me to dress casually, thank God.”

          When it came to dates, I’d much rather be in something comfortable than extremely fancy; I don’t know, that’s just me. Danielle nodded at my reply before saying, “Okay—you go take a shower while I look through your clothes, alright? Go!”

          I stood up from the bed, slightly wide eyed as I made my way towards the bathroom. When it came to date preparations, I don’t know who was worse—Danielle or Erica. I’m pretty sure it was Danielle, though, because Erica was actually chill about those things, believe it or not.

          Speaking of Erica, she would’ve been helping out here, too, but she told me she was “helping out your soon-to-be boyfriend before he explodes of nervousness.” Those were her exact words.

          After I had taken a shower, I quickly put on a fresh pair of yoga pants and a tank top before walking out of the bathroom, my wet hair wrapped in my towel as I see Danielle laying out an outfit on my bed. She glances at me and motions to the clothes. “Well?”

          Walking to stand next to my best friend, I looked down at the clothes she had arranged for me to wear. It was a pretty white lace top that I had bought a couple of weeks ago, paired with pale pink, fitted pants that somehow went with the outfit. On the bottom of the bed were a pair of my light brown ankle boots, and I raised my eyebrows at Danielle.

          “Those have heels,” I stated dumbly.

          She raised an eyebrow. “Yeah, so?”

          I shrugged. “Isn’t that, like, not casual?” I questioned, eyeing the heels of the boots. They weren’t too tall—I mean, if I wore them, I was pretty sure I’d still be shorter than Luke. But still.

          Danielle scoffed, rolling her eyes. “They go with the outfit perfectly,” she retorted. “Now come on, dry your hair; I’ll straighten it for you.”

          For the next couple of minutes, I dried my hair before sitting in front of my dresser while Danielle picked up the heated flatiron and got work on my hair. As she did that, I played some Trivia Crack on my phone while waiting for her to finish, and once she did, I couldn’t help but smile as I looked at my hair. I always liked it more when it was straightened, rather than its natural wavy mess.
