Chapter 25—Cheesy Shit Pt. 2

{ l u k e }

So far, Autumn and I had our waffle breakfast, watched the new Hunger Games movie at the theater, and even went to the roller skating rink that I had taken her to for our first date. Each stop had been a hit, successfully bringing the beautiful smile on Autumn's lips that I loved. The only thing on my mind was to make sure Autumn had a good day, and with us being almost through with the day, I can say that I was doing well.

At the moment, I was driving us to the park after making a pit stop at my house to pick up the basket that was prepared for our picnic lunch. Autumn teased me that we would look like some love-sick couple from the early 2000's, but she was grinning and saying how she loved it anyway.

We got to the local park in no time, and once I parked the car, I grabbed the basket from the backseat and Autumn's hand with my free one, leading her to the park's entrance. Thankfully, the weather was cooperating with us; the sun being partly hidden by a few clouds, impairing its harsh rays.

The familiar sound of children's laughter and shrieks could be heard, along with the occasional dog bark as the two of us trudged over a slight hill in the park, crossing over to the other side of it which was a bit more remote. The grass was soft under our shoes, folding beneath them as we walked. There was a light breeze blowing ever so often, cooling us under the normal hot Australian weather.

"I still can't believe you packed an actual picnic," I heard Autumn say from behind me as we continued walking, my eyes set straight ahead as they landed on the perfect spot for us to settle.

"Mum helped me," I informed, shooting her a look over my shoulder as she chuckled softly before looking back ahead. "Plus, it's your favorite foods in here, so shut up."

She scoffed loudly. "How romantic."

"Let me live, woman."

I could practically picture Autumn rolling her eyes at my statement, but I let it pass as we finally came to a stop. "Oh, wow," she breathed out, standing next to me as she took in the small stream that ran by this section of the park, the clear color reflecting everything that stood around the stream. The water was so transparent, the pebbles on the ground in the shallow water were visible. "This is so pretty."

Just then, I was ready to reply with a comment until Autumn cut me off, her index finger pointing in my direction as she eyed me warningly, "If you say not as pretty as me, I'll throw you in the water."

Instantly, I clamped my mouth shut, brows coming down in a light frown as my lower lip jutted out in a pout. "You're such a killjoy!" I whined, not being able to help myself as I stomped my feet before setting the basket down on the ground.

She snickered at my antics, clearly finding amusement in them. "And you're childish, yet here we are," she replied gloatingly as I crouched down to open the basket to pull out the white, navy, and light blue plaid picnic blanket.

Autumn watched as I stood up straight, gripping the two corners of the blanket before spreading it out in the air and settling it on the ground. She then sat down on it, too, followed by myself as I picked up the basket and put it between us, opening it up to pull out the items inside.
