Chapter 22 Morning Dilemma

The greatest teacher in life, could be the job itself...

Travis opened his eyes as he was yawning, Travis looked at his bedside table and picked up his phone to see the time. It was 8:03 in the morning, Travis turned and saw Emmett was still here asleep. Travis noticed how calm and relaxed Emmett looked sleeping, "And for your pet rabbit, you need to remember he's not on your level, but that doesn't mean he's a coward, it means...he's just not there yet" Travis recalled remembering what Doctor Lewis said to him yesterday at the Station. Travis smiled and got out of bed and grabbed a towel to shower, "At least today is my day off" Travis told himself.

Emmett P.O.V

As I was sleeping I could hear the sound of the shower and I remembered I slept at Travis's place. I looked around and realized, this is the happiest and calmest I felt, Travis was helping me...it was my safe place.

"Morning" Travis greeted walking in with his towel around his waist, Emmett noticed and got up to greet Travis, Emmett then picked up his phone to see if he had any messages. "Listen Emmett, after the last few days I've been thinking, and maybe you should...." Travis was about to say. Emmett sprung out of bed seeing a message on his phone, "Sorry...Tra..Travis, I got to go" Emmett stuttered before quickly putting his clothes on and leaving Travis apartment.

Travis put clothes on and was thinking about what he should do, "Maybe I'll go for a run" Travis thought. Travis looked around for his headphones, "Where did I put them?" Travis thought looking around. Travis spent about 5 minutes looking through his apartment to find his headphones. "I must have left it at the Station" Travis thought getting ready to head to the Station just to get his headphones.

Travis pulled up to the Station and was walking inside, as he walked inside he was hearing the phone ring. Travis walked over to the phone to answer, "Station 19, Montgomery speaking" Travis greeted into the phone. "Travis?" Maya's voice questioned, "Wait aren't you on vacation?" Travis asked. "Arent you suppose to be off shift" Maya asked back ignoring the question, "I needed my headphones" Travis answered.

"I need someone to grab the fire prevention folder on my desk and read my the following number" Maya explained. "On your vacation?" Travis asked, "Montgomery" Maya addressed, "Captain, Maya, you deserve a break and you should take it" Travis stated. Maya sighed in the phone, "Vacations are so stressful" Maya explained. "Maya go have a pina colada and sex up that beautiful Italian woman and Stop Thinking About Work" Travis ordered. "Fine" Maya hung up and Travis put the phone away.

Travis left heading upstairs to find his headphones...

Emmett P.O.V

I would have loved to stay and talk to Travis but when I looked at my phone I had two messages one from Alysha and One from dad. They were both reminding me about the lunch and I completely forgot so I had to go because all my dad knows is I love Alysha and I do love her so I had to go to lunch.

Emmett was fixing his hair in the washroom and he walked out and stopped as he saw Travis at the Station. "What are you doing here?" Emmett asked in a tone of slight panic, "I was getting my headphones, why are you here?" Travis asked back seeing how worried Emmett looked. "And this is where they do laundry" Chief Dixon's voice could be heard as he was coming. Travis turned his head hearing Chief Dixon and he looked back at Emmett. "I'm so sorry" Emmett apologized feeling bad.

"Travis!" Alysha cheered seeing her friend, Travis turned and smiled, "Alysha, Chief" Travis greeted as Alysha hugged Travis and as he shook Chief Dixon's hand. Emmett walked in awkwardly, "Well it was nice seeing you" Emmett greeted to Travis. "Montgomery we were planning on having Lunch, would you care to join us" Chief Dixon invited.

"Yes, yes, yes, I would love to hear more stories since you couldn't tell us at the hospital" Alysha begged. "Emmett never tells me anything" Alysha stated looking at Emmett as Travis smiles awkwardly. Emmett looked at his father, "Dad, it's his day off he probably..."Emmett was about to say. "Would love to sit and talk with his boss, right?" Chief Dixon stated and asked looking at Travis. "Yeah, I'd love too" Travis answered smiling, but Travis was thinking the opposite.

*Beep*

*Beep*

Structure Fire at 2156 bowlhelm road for Fire 19, Ladder 19, and Aid Car 19, "Dispatch beeped through the building.

Alysha watched at the firefighters got up leaving, "Oh do you guys have to go?" Alysha asked. Chief Dixon put his hand on Travis's shoulder, "No the other team deals with it, these two are off-shift" Chief Dixon explained walking with Travis. "You can tell me how my son is doing, and how things here are" Chief Dixon told Travis as they left the room. Alysha held Emmett's hand and kissed him on the cheek as they followed behind. 

As they walked all Travis could think about was...

getting his headphones.
