Chapter 43 I'll Be Seeing You

Saying goodbye can be the hardest thing, so instead we can say see you later...

The Old-timers listened in closely,  "Captain Herrera?" Maya questioned on the radio, "Cap?" Maya questioned again. "Captain Parker, I need a rapid intervention team to recover a firefighter" Maya explained. "Co...copy that" Captain Parked hesitated to reply back.

Uncle Snuffy looked at Lawrence and Lawrence looked up at Charlie, "Irwin, prepare to sound out 20 bells for a fallen firefighter tonight" Lawrence stated. Charlie looked at Lawrence, "We can't, he was retired he wasn't even supposed to be there and the new Fire Chief won't allow it" Charlie explained.

"What was Herrera doing when he died?" Lawrence asked, "Venting a damn roof, sounds like an active firefighter to me" Lawrence stated. "What about Chief Dixon?" Uncle Snuffy asked, "To hell with him, and someone ring the damn bells" Lawrence stated as they took a moment of silence for Pruitt.

Travis's eyes opened and he took off his mask and breathed loudly as there was oxygen inside once again. He crawled to Emmett as he coughed and removed Emmett's mask and started shaking him, "Emmett get up" Travis coughed. Emmett coughed as he could breathe again and Travis got up and helped Emmett up. Travis and Emmett looked at each other and Travis smiled and Emmett smiled back. Emmett put his arm around Travis as they helped each other walk outside.

Dean took off his mask and started coughing as he helped a firefighter from 14 get up and as they walked they saw Jack. Dean bent down and too off Jack's mask and hit his face so Jack would wake up. Jack woke up and started breathing again and Dean helped Jack up as well.

Andy and Sullivan looked at each other confused as they could breathe as they took off their masks. Andy and Sullivan could hear the sounds of bells ringing, and they looked confused about why bells were ringing.

Everyone from inside was coming out and coughing and Warren ran and kicked a pylon in rage and Vic was shocked with the rest of the firefighters. Everyone looked at the roof and saw all this smoke coming out as water was going in the giant hole.

Andy looked and saw Maya with her helmet off looking down and Andy saw her dad's hat on the truck making her cry. Captain Parker was the closest person to her so Andy cried and Captain Parker comforted her. Sullivan walked over and Captain Parked let Sullivan take it and Andy cried as Sullivan comforted her.

Captain Parker put his helmet back, "STATION 82 AND 92 FINISH THIS!!! 19 AND 14 CHECK-UP ON EVERYONE THAT WAS INSIDE!!!" Captain Parker shouted giving orders. Maya came down to the ladder and grabbed Pruitt's hat and walked over to a crying Andi, and Sullivan saw Maya coming. "Here you go Chief," Maya told Sullivan, Sullivan took the hat and looked at Maya, "I'll take her home" Sullivan explained as he walked Andy to his truck.

Maya took command and lead. so they could finally take out the fire as Captain Parker was checking on Travis and Vic. "You guys ok?" Captain Parker asked, Travis looked at Captain Parker, "Well the fact that I almost died isn't very encouraging" Travis explained as Vic put the mask back on him. Captain Parker looked at Emmett as an EMT was treating him, "Looks like the Chief Son had it bad" Captain Parker stated. Vic looked at Captain Parker, "Probies usually don't go through near-death experiences" Vic explained.

Vic stood up and everyone looked as they brought a stretcher outside with a body bag and there was a captains helmet on top of the body bag half burned. A Lieutenant walked to Captain Parker, "We found what was left sir" The Lieutenant explained. "Put it in Aid Car 19, it should be their decision what to do with it moving forward" Captain Parker stated as they took the body away.

Maya and Captain Bishop met up again, "It's been an honour Captain Bishop" Captain Parker acknowledge with his hand out. Maya shook Captain Parker's hand, "Likewise" Maya replied, "82 let's move" Captain Parker called as everyone was getting to their Vehicles leaving the Storage facility.

Back at Station 19, Maya came out and faced everyone, "Listen up everyone, I know today we lost a good one, the best, our teacher, mentor, hero, friend, and father, he climbed that ladder because he wanted to save this family, he wanted to save the family he brought together, Station 19 will mourn the death of our beloved Captain but we will strive to continue his image and legacy by continuing to save lives, one fire at a time  Maya explained before everyone split off doing their own thing.

Emmett was cleaning up and Travis watched from a distance and Vic went to Travis, "You okay?" Vic asked. "Of course, why?" Travis asked, Vic smirked, "No reason" Vic replied walking away, Emmett heard his phone and he saw a message from his dad. "Hey Son, meet me and the water fountain in front of the art museum" Chief Dixon's message read.

Emmett went downstairs to the front desk at the Station and saw Vic, "I'm heading out, see you tomorrow" Emmett explained. Vic smiled, "Sure, see yeah Probie" Vic replied as she watched Emmett leave and get into his car and drive away.

Vic grabbed her phone and was messaging Travis, "Want to get a drink?" Vic asked, Vic waited and heard a notification sound. "Sure" Travis message said, Vic went upstairs to find Travis so they could get a day drink.

Emmett P.O.V

Today has been crazy, I tried all day to talk to Travis but he won't talk to me and the worse part is that I almost died today. And the Stations old captain died, and it made me think about how that could have been me.

Emmett got out and saw decorations and all his family and Alysha's family but Alysha wasn't here. "Dad what's going on? It's not my birthday" Emmet asked, Chief Dixon smiled, "Ah that's my boy, I'm so proud" Chief Dixon greeted. Emmett was really confused about why his whole family and Alysha's was here.

"Emmett?" Alysha questioned, Emmett turned and saw Alysha in a pretty outfit, "Wow Alysha, what's this all about" Emmett asked. Alysha held Emmett's hands, "Emmett we have been together for 6 years and we have loved each other so much" Alysha started. Emmett looked and saw everyone had their phones out and then Emmett looked back at Alysha.

"You make me feel so special, and I want to be with you for a long time and take care of you" Alysha stated. "Alysha there is something I need to tell you"Emmett brought up, "So let me ask the big question" Alysha interrupted. "Emmett Dixon, will you be my forever, will you marry?" Alysha asked taking out the ring and taking the knee. Emmett's eyes widened in shock and he looked around seeing everyone smiling including his dad.

At that moment Emmett felt numb just like he did at the storage facility...
