Chapter 40 It's Never Just Fire

Fear plays a big role in our Character, and It could make or break life or death...

As Maya was at the Triage the owner walked up to Maya, "Is this everybody?" The Owner asked nervously. "Don't worry we accounted for everyone on your list" Maya reassured, "Don't worry sir..." Maya was about to say. "I think there is still one more person inside" The Owner said quickly interrupting Maya. Maya looked at the owner, "If there is and they are injured, you will be liable" Maya stated. "Look there is this nice guy who pays extra to live in one of the units and he lost his house because of medical bills and I just wanted to help him out" The owner explained.

"And you are just mentioning this now?" Maya asked, "Well I figured he would come out on his own but I don't see him here" The Owner explained. "Damn it we gotta go back in" Maya sighed turning around walking away.

 ...

The old-timers were hearing the radio, "This is Captain Bishop we still have another victim inside continue search and rescue" Maya reported. Uncle Snuffy looked at Pruitt, "You're team left a man inside, meaning you get taxed" Snuffy explained taking the bill and putting in in the middle of the table. The others laughed as Snuffy just taxed Pruitt.

Jack walked over to Maya, "Our tanks our low and Station 14 is taking hoses inside" Jack reported, Maya looked at Jack.  "Yeah, don't get too comfortable, you're all going back in for search and rescue, civilians name is Luke Getherd, owner isn't sure which locker he's in so you will have to go one by one" Maya explained. Andy was about to walk in before bumping into Sullivan, "Hey, they might need your help out here with aid car and everything" Sullivan told Andy.

Andy looked at Sullivan, "Please don't make that order Chief, I need to be with my team" Andy explained. Before Andy said anything she walked away and Captain Parker went to Sullivan to talk strategy.

Andy and her team were inside, "Ok everyone split up and start searching the units" Andy ordered as they all paired up and went. Andy and Jack were paired and they were searching, "See anything?" Jack asked. "Nope" Andy replied as they continued checking each storage unit. Emmett and Travis were paired, "Seatle Fire! Seatle Fire everyone out!" Travis called knocking on the locker.

"Hey, Travis what about this one" Emmett called, Travis helped Emmett opened the Storage unit but it as empty. Emmett and Travis kept walking and Emmett looked at Travis, "Can we talk now?" Emmett asked. "Seatle Fire everyone out" Travis called, "You're ignoring me now?" Emmett asked as they continued. "No I'm working" Travis replied as they continued to search.

Vic and Dean were together looking around but Dean was nervous about the fact he didn't have a will so if he dies who would get the baby. "Miller over here" Vic called out seeing a lock missing from one of the lockers. Vic and Dean lift it up and see fire and a person inside, "Found him" Vic stated but as they were about to go in the fire grew and Dean froze.

"MILLER!" Vic called as she went and grabbed the fire extinguisher from him, "I'm sorry, I can't do it to Pru" Dean told Vic. "Nobody's dying today!" Vic shouted as she was taking the fire out, A firefighter from14 came and saw Dean and Vic. "Help get the man to PRT" Dean told the firefighters as they lifted the man.

"Ready 3 2 1" Andy counted down as Jack and Andy lifted the locker open and saw more fire, Jack and Andy saw propane tanks inside. "Right, cause where else would you store propane?" Jack asked sarcastically. Jack and Andy started to take out the fire and Andy grabbed her radio, "Captain, some genius decided to store some Propane tanks in one of the lockers" Andy reported.

Jack extinguisher stopped, "I'm out" Jack informed Andy.

Outside Vic took the victim to Warren and they were rolling him to the PRT Vehicle, Captains Maya and Parker stood by Sullivan. "Copy Herrera, stand by" Maya replied to Andy's call, Captain Parker looked at Sullivan. "Should we re-route all the hose lines to Herrera's position?" Captain Parker asked.

Sullivan looks at Captain Parker, "If we let that thing blow we don't know what that explosion will do, it could collapse the whole building" Sullivan answered. "We're confident we got all civilians out" Maya reassured. "With that we're just protecting property now" Captain Davis finished. "The only ones who can get hurt are our people, we can hit the fire from outside with heavy streams" Maya explained and suggested.

"I agree with Bishop, we should pull out so we can switch to defensive" Captain Parker added giving his input. "Alright I'm pulling them out" Sullivan stated grabbing his radio, Captain Parker and Maya continued to work. "Emergency traffic, all units this is an operational retreat, all units exit the building we are transitioning to defensive mode, repeat all firefighters out of the building" Sullivan ordered.

Jack and Andy were hearing Sullivan on the radio, "All units exit the building and check-in" Sulivan ordered. Jack backed away, "Come on Herrera we've been given our orders so let's go" Jack advised. "Wait if we block this vent we can give our people more time to get out" Andy explained grabbing a rag. "Okay" Jack replied helping out with Andy's idea.

Travis was breathing through his mask as Emmett and himself were trying to find the exit, "Wait isn't it back this way?" Emmett asked. Travis looked at Emmett, "I don't know all these hallways look the same" Travis replied.  "This way, I think" Travis explained, "You think?" Emmett questioned. Travis looked at Emmett, "Well do you know the way out?" Travis asked. Emmett paused and shook his head as in no. "Then let's go" Travis explained leading the way.

Dean and a firefighter from 14 turned and it was a dead-end, they turned around going another way, "Bishop Visibility is almost zero and we're having trouble finding the way out" Dean reported.  "Bishop do you copy?" Dean asked as they continued to look even though they were lost.

Outside, Sullivan grabbed his radio, "Parker where are we on Ventalion?" Sullivan asked, "82 and 92 are using everything they got from chainsaws to rotary saws to breach the walls but we're chopping at cinderblocks and brick" Captain Parker explained. "Chief we need to get it down before they run out of air" Maya informed Sullivan.

Maya grabbed her radio, "Captain Parker can you go any faster?" Maya asked, "Negative it's going to take as long as it takes" Captain Parker reported back.

...

Meanwhile, the old-timers were having drinks they were listening to the calls, "Attempting to minimize the blast" Andy reported. "That kid of yours Herrera, is better than you" Lawrence stated, "Couldn't agree anymore" Pruitt commented.  "Herrera? Gibson? Check-in" Maya ordered and asked. "The fire is spreading and the propane tanks are engulfed we're closing the door now to try..." Andy was about to report.

*BOOM*

The old-times looked at the radio hearing the explosion on the radio, "Herrera do you copy?" Maya asked.  "Gibson?....Herrera?....Herrera?" Maya called on the radio waiting for an answer but there was no response.
