Chapter 88 Friday Shift

Emmett P.O.V

I was pretty quiet after the five-alarm from last shift, Travis drove me home and that was it, he went home and I was alone at my place. But now I'm nervous to see Bishop today since she was upset with my recent performance. Let's just hope today is a good day, but from what I've learned. this job is different every shift.

Emmett walked into the Station and saw Travis at the reception desk answering a phone call and they looked at each other awkwardly. Travis looked down at the phone, "Station 19, this is Montgomery" Travis addressed. Emmett walked to the Captain's office and knocked on the door, "Come in" A Male voice said. Emmett was confused but he opened the door and his eyes widened as he saw Parker sitting at the desk.

"Dixon, your right on time today" Parker commented, "T-Thanks, where's Bishop?" Emmett asked. Parker set down some reports, "Bishop and Herrera have been given today off again" Parker explained. "Why?" Emmett asked, "Herrera took the day off for personal reasons and Bishop is off because Sullivan said so" Parker answered. Emmett listened and he looked at Parker, "Am I still on Aid Car today?" Emmett asked. Parker looked at the schedule, "Yup, you're with Travis" Parker explained. Emmett smiled, "Perfect" Emmett commented sarcastically, Parker knew it was sarcasm but he didn't say anything.

*Knock*

*Knock*

Emmett looked at the door, "Come in" Parker called, Captain Rose walked in, "Oh is this a bad time?" Captain Rose asked. Emmett stood up, "No, I was just leaving" Emmett replied leaving the office and closing the door on the way out.

"Why are you here Rose?" Parker asked, Rose walked over to Parker, "Can I not see my boyfriend at work?" Rose asked. Parker looked at Rose, "Of course not, you're always welcome here, well when I'm captain" Parker commented as Rose grabbed Parker by the shirt and they kissed. They kissed for several seconds and they stopped. Rose and Parker smiled at each other and she stepped back, "Anyway I was just checking on you, I need to get back to Station 18, see you later" Rose mentioned. Parker kissed Rose again, "See you later" Parker said as she left the office.

Vic saw Rose come out of the Captain Office, Parker looked and saw Vic lean into the door frame and she smiled, "No...it's not what you think" Parker stated. Vic walked into the office, "So you didn't just kiss her?" Vic asked, Parker turned to sit at the desk. "You did" Vic stated, "I didn't say so" Parker replied, "You didn't deny it either" Vic added. Parker looked at Vic, "How was your doctor visit by Jackson" Parker asked, Vic eyes widened. "I gotta go see you later Captain" Vic commented before leaving, Parker chuckled and looked at the reports.

Emmett walked upstairs to the beanery and saw Warren was preparing coffee and Dean and Jack were eating breakfast. "Hey Probie" Warren greeted, "Hey Warren" Emmett greeted as he sat at the table. Warren sat at the table and Vic and Travis were on their way to the beanery talking. But Travis stopped seeing Emmett and Vic noticed, but they quickly sat down at the table. 

Parker entered the beanery seeing the team, "Hey guys, as you know Bishop and Herrera aren't here today, so just a reminder, Montgomery and Dixon are on Aid Car, Hughes and I are on Ladder, Miller and Gibson you are on Engine" Parker explained. Everyone nodded in agreement and Emmett and Travis were hesitant. "At least we haven't had any calls yet" Warren commented, "We have only been here for 10 Minutes" Vic commented.

*Beep*

Dispatch P.O.V

Structure Fire on 231 Yorkville East, requesting Aid Car 19, Ladder 19, and Engine 19...

"Let's move" Parker called as everyone ran to the turnout room, "Good luck" Warren called as he sat back. Travis and Emmett were running to the Aid Car and Travis sat in the driver seat, "Ready?" Travis asked. "Yup" Emmett replied as the barn doors opened up and their sirens went off as they drove out.

"Looks like we're together again" Vic commented as Parker listened to dispatch, "Yup" Parker replied. "Have you noticed Emmett and Travis have been distant recently?" Vic asked, Parker looked at Vic. "I'm glad I'm not the only one that notice" Parker replied, Vic smirked, "They'll get over it" Vic stated. "Hopefully" Parker added as they both smirked and Vic continued to drive to the fire.

Station 19's vehicles turned the corner to a mansion and their was a guard at the gate stopping them. Parker rolled down the window, "Open the gate" Parker advised, "Sorry sir but are you on the list?" The Guard asked. "List?" Vic asked, "Yeah the boss is strict with visitors" The Guard stated.

Parker looked at the guard, "We got a 911 call about a fire" Parker explained, "Nah, no fire here, we would hear the fire alarms, the boss is probably just having a bonfire" The Guard stated. Vic leaned near Parker, "What's the plan Captain? I say we ram the gate" Vic asked and stated. Parker radio beeped, "Captain what's the holdup?" Jack asked. Parker grabbed his radio, "Hold on Gibson" Parker replied, "We are the fire department if you don't open the gate we will force entry" Parker explained.

The Guard backed up, "You can't do that, I'll call the boss" The Guard stated, as the guard reached for his phone they heard an explosion from the mansion and the front bushes were on fire. The Guard's eyes widened in fear, "OPEN THE DAMN GATE!!!" Parker shouted, the guard ran over but the controls were busted. "I CAN'T!!! LOOKS LIKE A POWER FAILURE!!!" The Guard shouted. Vic looked at Parker, "I say we go with my idea" Vic commented, Parker sighed, "Ram the gate" Parker ordered. Vic smiled, "Hell yes" Vic cheered as she stomped her foot on the gas and everyone watched as they saw the Ladder ram the gate and break it.

"Parker, what the hell?" Travis called on the radio, "Long story short, gate won't open so we opened it ourselves" Parker called on the radio as they all got out. Parker saw a servant run out coughing, "Hey what happened?" Parker asked. "Explosion, fire, gas, people" The Servant panicked. Parker put his hand on the guy's shoulder, "Relax sir, how many people are in the building?" Parker asked. "Boss had a party you can ask security for the guest list" The Servant answered. "Thank you" Parker thanked, "Montgomery, Dixon, treat this man in the Aid Car now" Parker ordered.

Emmett and Travis helped the servant to the Aid Car, "Miller, Gibson I want all the fire on the exterior plants extinguished now" Parker ordered. Jack and Dean ran to the engine, "Yes Captain" Jack called as they went to foam. Parker turned to Williams and Cutter, "Williams and Cutter, get me some lines connected and prepare for attack" Parker ordered watching them run to the hoses. Vic walked to Parker, "Hughes, take rivers with you and start search and rescue" Parker ordered. Vic ran to grab Rivers and Parker saw a guard run over to him with a list of names, "This is the full list" The Guard explained. Parker was shocked and he grabbed his radio, "Dispatch this is Ladder 19, requesting additional units on 231 Yorkville East, we have a four-story mansion fire, and there are 250 guests inside, I need Aid Cars, Ladders, Engines, and PRT 19 to my location" Parker called on the radio. "Copy Captain Parker, stand by" Dispatch replied, Parker looked at the mansion and was getting flashbacks to his childhood. 

Parker shook his head and ran to the hoses to help prepare them to battle this fire...
