Someone lived out in the forest
They always had. They had been there for every reset, every time try had snuck through the portal and slank away to the very borders of Hermitcraft.

They had a small cabin, built from wood and stone, pretty simple and basic, but they didn't need much.

There was a small farm around a natural pond. There were markers scratched into trees in the shapes of arrows.

If you followed them a few thousand blocks you'd eventually come across the main Hermitcraft island.

They were currently spending their afternoon on the front steps of the cabin, it was a nice day, they didn't particularly enjoy the sun, but it was nice at that time of day when the leaves in the trees broke up the sunlight perfectly.

They were about to head inside just as a shrill scream pierced the silence, They suddenly whipped around, pulling a helmet over their head, grabbing the enchanted diamond sword that hung on a hook by the door and running in the direction of the scream.

After wandering the area for a few minutes, trying to trace the source of the sound, they started to wonder if they had been imagining the sound, but they soon discovered a cave. Less of a cave than a death trap. It was narrow with jagged sides, it went down a long way and it was pitch black at the bottom. It was just off the main path and could easily be wandered over if someone wasn’t paying attention.

Peering over into the cave, they still couldn’t see anything, they heard whimpers of pain from down the bottom, Someone else is here, I’m not not just imagining it. They thought just as another scream of pain was heard from within.

Making a quick decision, they climbed into the cave, making their way down as fast as they could, they let themselves drop the last few blocks, landing feet first in front of the crumpled figure on the ground.

Eyes quickly adjusting to the light level in the cave they swung their sword at the skeleton, dodging arrows. He grabbed the skeleton by the wrist and a black mist surrounded it, there was a flash and the skeleton was a pile of ashes.

They made quick work of the zombie before turning to the figure, it was a boy, younger than they were, his ankles were twisted awkwardly, obviously broken, he had wings, one of which was ripped nastily, he made pained whimpering noises, obviously trying to stay conscious.

Quickly picking up the boy, hoping not to hurt him more in the process, they made their way slowly from the cave, the boy’s injured wing repeatedly hit the ground, but they didn’t notice.

By the time they had carried the boy back to their cabin he had passed out. They laid him on their bed and ran off to find a healing potion of some sort.

Rummaging hurriedly through their few chests, they finally found a single Healing potion, they were lucky they had made a few after being impaled by a drowned, but they'd have to make more at some point, which would mean finding melons- and gold, but mainly melons-

"Argh." They groaned, snapping themselves out of thoughts and taking the potion back upstairs, "Not the time to be thinking about melons, idiot."

They moved to the brewing stand that say on the window sill opposite the bed, they questioned why it was there and not in their chest room.

Quickly shaking their head to get the annoying, unnecessary thoughts out of there, they poured a little gunpowder into the stand and waited anxiously for the potion to turn into a splash one, the didn't feel like force-feeding the boy.

As soon as the potion was ready they splashed it over him, the wound on his wing healed slowly and do did the wound on his arm where the arrow had pierced his skin.

His ankles began to correct themselves, before all his wounds stopped healing about half way through the process.

The person cursed, they hadn't extended the potion, now they didn't have any more.

Normal, old fashioned healing it would have to be.

They ran back down to their chests and rummaged around to find some bandages, when they did the made quick (and slightly sloppy) work of bandaging the boy’s wing and arm, they didn’t know what to do about his ankles though, they decided to leave them and hopefully find some melons later.

Now all that was left for them to do was make some cookies and wait for the boy to wake up.
