“Wh-who am I?” Grian asked nervously, looking around at the crowd, then at Xisuma, who nodded encouragingly. Grian took a deep breath and introduced himself like the others had.
“M-my name is Gr-Griian and I have W-watcher magic…” He said. He hoped he had been loud enough for them to hear, a few of the group, mainly Joe, Xisuma and False looked surprised, the rest of them looked confused, Grian guessed they hadn’t heard of the magic type before, it was one of the rarest and most powerful.
Grian looked apprehensively around the group as they muttered to one another, Xisuma had jumped down from the stage where he had been stood to talk briefly to some of the group before jumping easily back up.
Xisuma turned to Grian with a warm smile, evident in his eyes, it instantly made Grian feel less nervous.
“Welcome, Grian, to Hermitcraft!” Xisuma said.
“Welcome to our huge dysfunctional family!” someone yelled from the crowd.“As it turns out,” Xisuma said, silencing the crowd, “As Grian just got here, we’re about to reset, as most of you know.”
Grian looked around curiously, most of the group looked excited, a few looked nervous and others looked indifferent.
“We wanted to wait until he woke up to reset, so we could still have a hospital, but now he’s awake, we should be able to reset with no problems.” Xisuma explained.
“Is the portal set up?” Scar asked,
“It should all be good, we just need to get there.” Xisuma replied.
“Wh-what are we doing…?” Grian asked curiously, he had no idea what was going on, he was confused, curious and excited at the same time.“We do a reset every once in a while, usually about a year or so apart,” X explained, moving closer to Grian so he could hear him over the chatter of the rest of the group, “It resets the country we’re in to nothing, and revamps the wards at the same time, that’s what keeps us safe from non-magic users here.”
“What ha-happens if we d-don’t…?” Grian asked, his head tilted to the side, he could hear parts of what the group were saying, they were mainly talking about what they might create or what shops they could build in the reset world.
“Most likely, the wards will wear out and eventually break, allowing anyone to come in here,” X said simply, Grian looked scared, and also glad that they would be resetting the wards, he didn’t want to be taken by those people again.“Alright!” X said, catching everyone’s attention once again, “Everyone follow me.”
The group rushed to follow him quickly as he led them into a large cave, which was beautifully built and the details were obviously well thought out. Grian was almost left behind as they rushed to stand around the giant nether portal that rose above them, the purple swirls looking ominous, he’d never travelled by portal before.
Grian zoned out as Xisuma and the group talked about the previous year and everything that had happened, he focused his mind on healing his wing and shoulder until it was perfectly healed.
“Are you alright dude?” Someone said next to Grian, bringing him back to the world, he looked up to be facing a tall (to him at least) man with a robotic blue eye, Grian recognised him as Iskall, Grian stared for a second before realising he was probably expecting a reply.
“Be-better than ever.” He said, reaching to pull the bandages off of his arm.“Wait- don’t-” Iskall said, reaching forward to stop him.
“It’s fine.” Grian said, showing Iskall where the wound was, which was completely healed but a small, white scar.
“It’s healed? But Cleo said-” Iskall said surprised,
“I can h-heal myself with my magic.” Grian interrupted, reaching to untie the bandage around his wing. It fell off and Grian stretched out his wings, flapping them a few times before looking back at Iskall.“You travelled by portal before?” Iskall asked him, changing the subject quickly.
“N-no…” Grian muttered.
“It’s not that bad, I’ve only done one reset before this, it makes you feel a little sick, but you’ll be ok.” He said comfortingly in his thick swedish accent. Grian smiled.“You two coming or what?” Someone yelled at them before everyone started running through the portal,
“Ready?” Iskall asked him.
“No…” Grian said honestly, he was excited but also terrified of the portal.
“Well too bad.” Iskall said, grabbing Grian’s wrist before he had time to react and pulling him through the portal with a laugh,Grian yelped, he could still feel Iskall holding his wrist as the falling sensation of travelling through a reset portal took hold of him, he felt as though he had been falling forever before it stopped suddenly and he was spat out onto cold, wet grass.
On time? How surprising!
Anyway, if you didn't see, I posted a chapter at the start of the book called "A guide to magic" and it basically has an explanation for what each type of magic featured in this book does just to help anyone who's confused.
If a new type of magic comes into play then it'll be added to the chapter.
Hope you enjoyed!
