"No Maria! Let go of me!" Jace yelled

"But you have to! You can't tell me no after you already agreed!" Maria shouted

"Let go of me!" Jace yelled

"Whoa, what's going on?" I asked

"Make her let go of me!" Jace yelled

   "Maria. What did we discuss?"

"But if I let go he'll leave." She stated

Jace kept wiggling. I can see the situation escalating if I don't figure something out. He looks scared.

"Maria, you don't treat friend this way. Please let go." I said softly, gently grabbing her hand

"Let go! Maria please! This hurts!" Jace cried as she tightened her grip

"You will be my boyfriend, you agreed!" She yelled

She looked back at Jace and I can only assume she saw something I didn't because she immediately let go of him.

"Shit. Jace I'm sorry." She said softly

"I never agreed to be your boyfriend. I told you, I can't date you." He said between panicked breaths

   "I know. I guess I'm just jealous. I'm sorry."

"Is there something here that I don't know about?" I asked

"N-no. Everything is okay." Jace stuttered

"Okay. Maria, why don't you leave us?" I suggested

She nodded walking out of the little room attached to the classroom.

"Why was she convinced you'd date her if you said no?" I asked

"I don't know. She's been asking me since last year. I tell her every time that I can't."

"Why not? It's none of my buisness but I want to help. Is it because you don't like her?" I asked

"No, I think she's amazing and she'd make someone very happy someday." He smiled thinking

"Then what's the problem?" I asked

"I can't date her. It doesn't work that way." He said quickly

"I don't understand Jace. What doesn't  work that way?" I asked

"I" there was a long pause. "I'm gay." He said sounding ashamed

   "And that's a bad thing?" I asked

"Well Yeah. When Sam came out as gay the whole school turned against him. He couldn't even change for gym. If he opened his eyes he was looking at somebody and if he closed his eyes he was daydreaming of somebody. They beat him." Jace said beginning to cry again

"Jace, there's nothing wrong with being gay." I started as there was a knock on the door

"Hey baby." Mark greeted me as I opened the door

"Perfect timing actually. I'm talking to Jace here about being gay." I told him

Mark laughed for a second, not thinking I was serious. Then he realized that I wasn't kidding.

"You mean it actually still seems like the end of the world in high school?" He asked sitting down

"Yeah. I mean, one of my friends got the crap kicked out of him for coming out." Jace sighed

"Jace, I've known you since you were 4. You're a fighter, literally, I can't remember how many times I've split you up. Why is this any different?" I asked

   "I-I just is." He stuttered

"Jace, is something happening at home?" I asked

"No. Everything is fine." He said quickly

"So what about your black eye?" Mark asked

"I fell. Can I go now? I need to talk to Sam." He asked

"Yeah. Go enjoy your lunch." I sighed

I waited for him to leave the room and turned to Mark.

"I'm on duty today if you wanna come out with me."

"Something is going on with him." Mark sighed

"That kid has the worst luck. I swear. First his Dad, now whatever this is." I said walking outside

   "Sam!" Jace yelled

"What? Cone to yell at me too? Call me a fag?" Sam yelled

"When have I ever done that." Jace asked

"You haven't but everybody else has and it's only-"

"Shut up Sam. Just shut up." Jace said as he kissed Sam

I turned to Mark and smiled. Theses kids may be smart, but they still deal with the same problems as everyone else.

"Jace what the hell? What if they come after you?" Sam asked

"Let them. I'm tired of hiding this. I'm tired of hiding us Sam." Jace said, kissing him again

"Look! The fag got a girlfriend!" A student yelled

I walked over knowing what was about to happen.

"This fag is my boyfriend. And I am a boy dumb ass. You want me to prove it? Oh wait, that would make you gay." Jace said

"Look you little bitch!" He yelled pushing Jace

"Jace let's just go." Sam said softly

"Shut up fag." He yelled pushing Sam, knocking him down

"You know, I knew you were dumb, but I didn't known you were this dumb." Jace said swinging at the student, knocking him in the head

Quickly a fight began between Jace and the other student, Sam tried to intervening but he got pushed away. Mark and I grabbed the two boys and separated them. This fight touched us both on a personal level but we had to set that aside.

"What did I just do?" Jace asked

   "Jace, it's ok-"

"Please, don't send me to the office. He can't find out I did this." Jace begged

"I'm not sending you to the office. Calm down Jace. Take a deep breath." I told him

   "Sorry."

"Stop apologising. Jace you did it. I had no idea you and Sam were togeather. That was amazing." I hugged him

   "Okay." He nodded

"Do you feel any better?" I asked

"Jace! Are you Okay?" Sam asked running over

"I'm fine Sam. It's okay." Jace smiled

"What about your ribs. Your face?" Sam asked

Jace just kissed Sam softly. I stepped back and found Mark.

"They remind me of us." He said hugging me from behind

"Yeah. I'm gonna talk to Sam after lunch. They're in phys.ed. I need to figure out what's going on." I sighed
