AFTER THE LONG DAY OF SITTING
around and questioning the victims, the BAU returned to the hotel to get some sleep. Rossi, Lilac and I didn't make much progress after our break, because the victims started refusing to respond to any questions again. And Lilac tried talking to Dove once more, the poor girl lost it and ended up having a seizure. She was okay, but it shook Lilac up a little.I tried to convince her that it wasn't her fault at all, but of course, the woman basically moped to herself on the entire car ride, not saying a single word. Now, we were in the elevator and I could basically feel the negative energy radiating off of her. Finally, I turned to the woman with a reassuring look.
"Lilac, it's because of the benzos. The withdrawal symptoms involve seizures, so it wasn't your fault at all." I told her as the elevator dinged and opened. We walked side by side to our hotel room.
"But—I don't know. I probably pushed her too hard." She grumbled, huffing with disappointment.
I squeezed her shoulder. "Stop it." I said. "If anything, it's my fault for making you continue to question her."
Lilac frowned and shrugged, rubbing her face with frustration. "What if she's hurt?"
"Lilac, we know she's okay. Come on, you really shouldn't be beating yourself up over this." I said, furrowing my eyebrows worriedly. I didn't like seeing Lilac upset at all—the girl normally radiated that golden retriever energy...so seeing her sad and quiet made my heart hurt.
But of course, Lilac took my words with a grain of salt and merely shook her head, stopping in front of our room. I dug into my pocket for the hotel room key, and as I did so, it finally hit me that we were going to be staying in one room together, for who knows how long.
I mean, I could always go and sleep in Derek or Rossi's room, but...alright, I wanted to be with her, and I didn't want to leave her alone—I mean, technically I was in charge of her for this little trip, so I was obviously also obliged to keep my eyes on her at all times.
It was surprising, really. Normally at the thought of having to stay anywhere near a pretty woman for more than a few hours terrified me. But with Lilac...I felt the need to be glued to her side 24/7, and when I wasn't I found myself missing her presence. Obviously it was because I had a crush on the woman...but still. Me wanting to be around a woman was just uncharacteristic.
"Night, you two!" I heard Derek suddenly shout from down the hall, waving his arm obnoxiously. I flinched, shooting him a deathly glare. "I'll be here if you all need anything!" He said smugly, blatantly smirking at me.
I scowled at the man as Lilac silently entered the room, not acknowledging it at all. When she was out of sight, I quickly flipped Derek off and entered the room.
