Okay, so I guess it's Earth Day! Happy Earth Day (legit, this quarantine had ruined my inner calender lol!) So, yay! Chapter 2! I will be working on revising the Slender Games and will hopefully in coming days be releasing that! So until then, enjoy Jay and Noah's epic adventure!!
(Fun fact; I was using the auto suggestion for this chapter title, and my tablet wanted to make this "Chapter 2 bankruptcy" so.... Idk, mine sounded better lol!)
Third Person P.O.V
Jay took a shaky breath, feeling the peroxide bubbling on his neck like little needles. "So this Alex guy's working with Slender Man?" Noah asked as he picked up some bandages. "Yeah, now he does. He shot at me, and then I woke up somewhere... weird after that." "How so?" He described the negative world, Firebrand, and finally the Observer. Noah didn't look surprised at this news, only tired, "I was right; we're in the same mess. Those f**kers have been after me since the beginning..."
He pulled away, finished with the bandaging job and digging through his cabinet. Jay wondered if he was digging for pills. With that thought, he pushed his hand into his jean pockets, feeling a small ziplock bag Tim had given him. He claimed it was in case he had a break down and couldn't take them himself, but Jay knew that was a lie to get him to keep them on him. It managed to work.
As they left towards the living room, Jay recalled an interesting note he hadn't remembered before; "The one- Firebrand- told me not to return to Jersey, but that's something weird, because I've never even been there." Noah's movement hitched for a moment, just enough to see, "Oh... Firebrand, he's...well, he's crazy, but he's someone to listen to." "Either way, they didn't seem too happy about him talking to me." He'd intentionally left out the parts involving his death and how Firebrand apparently revived him. Somehow that felt safer.
They retold their stories, how Jay had spent years looking for his old friend Alex- who had already lost his mind, and how he teamed up with Tim to find the now dead Jessica. In turn Noah told him about the Collective; a group of Time-bending, distorted people who followed orders from Slender Man, and how they had been sending him messages since his cousin's suicide.
"I didn't know there was anything other than 'the Slender Man'." Jay remarked, processing all of this information. "You have no idea." Noah snorted as the two sat in the living room.
"Well, your friend, did he seem invested in documenting?" "Yeah." "Wanna check if he's been updating anything?" They pulled up Jay's channel, and sure enough, there were new entries. "Wait," He pointed out, "I uploaded this one right before I-" He shook his head, "It's been two weeks?" "Time demons." Noah noted, "Remember, time's not a constant anymore. Neither is -" The sunlight faded slightly, not from a cloud.
They looked at the fogged-glass door, seeing a shorter, dark silhouette hidden behind it. "F**k." Noah huffed. Jay reached for his knife, only to remember Tim took it. The figure raised a hand and waved, as if he could see their wide eyes. Then a letter slipped under the door, the figure leaving.
Noah cautiously skipped to it, picking it up and reading the front. His face changed to brief confusion as he held it out. "Jay Merrick?"
He opened it, finding a folded up map, ripped straight from an atlas, with a rough left side. On it, a highlighter had been circled on a town, an address in black marker next to it. "New Jersey." He sighed and began pacing. Noah said "Worse than that; I know the place. They're some guys, dealing with this s**t. That's their address." He shook his head, "But Firebrand said you can't go." "I can't go back to it." He corrected, "Like I said, I've never been there."
He tossed the map on the couch, "Doesn't matter anyway. I need to get back to Tim." "Can you call him?" "I tried, his phone's still screwed up." "Yeah, okay, but, what if Vinny's in trouble? He might need help." "Who?" "Guy who lives there. Duh," He became sterner, "Listen, Jay, you seem like a nice guy. I want to help. It's amazing to not feel alone in this s**t for once. But I really think we need to get to Vinny. This is Firebrand's handwriting. I know it." "He seems to be just a little too conflicting," Jay pointed out, "And he's in that cult thing. Why trust him?" "He's helped me, Okay?!" He jumped at the raise in volume, but didn't get to responde.
Knock, knock, knock
They turned back to the glass patio door, finding a shorter man, with a ragged jacket, a hat, and a machete. All covered in blood.
"Oh f**k." Noah gasped, all sharpness in his voice replaced by surprise and fear. The man grinned wide at them with malevolence. He reached into his jean pocket, pulling out a folded paper. He used a hand to swing it around for unfolding, then stuck it on the door.
'Cover your ears, this is gonna be big!'
Noah asked "What does-" "GAS!" Jay yelled, the smell hitting him. The guy ran away, and Jay grabbed Noah's arm, "WE NEED TO GO! NOW!" He didn't hesitate. He scooped up his camera, Jay quickly grabbed the map, and they ran outside into the humid summer air.
BOOM
They were knocked face down as flames burst from the windows of the home. Jay grunted, feeling pain from his wound, then felt Noah yank him up. "LET'S GET OUT OF HERE! HABIT MIGHT STILL BE HERE!" he cried, guiding them both to the car. They jumped back in, locking the door as Habit circled the house. "Leaving so soon?" He called playfully, muffled by the car's glass. The only protection. "Go!" Jay yelled, "Go go go!" Neither bothered to even get properly seated before he hit the excelerator. Habit waved at them as they sped off.
"What was that?!" Jay asked, gasping in knocked out air. "That's Habit," Noah said, voice shaking a bit with adrenaline, "He's this bat s**t crazy demon possessing Evan Jennings. He already wiped out most of the New Jersey guys single handedly, and if he just did what I think, that means we're in deep s**t, Jay. Deep, deep, deep s***." "Does he know the guy on the map?" "Know?" Noah snorted, "Practically lives with him. When he's not- never mind. You get it, right?" "Unfortunately, yeah."
After that, they fell into silence. Noah blakely drove north, turning onto the Interstate. Jay didn't argue; He needed to get to Tim, but Tim also knew how to take care of himself. Without him in the picture, maybe Tim would just leave and take care of himself. Get away from the madness. He hadn't gotten to watch the videos yet, but he was afraid to. He took out his phone, cursing himself for not allowing comments on the videos. Would Tim even check if they were there? He quickly made a new Twitter account, under his own name, and quickly typed.
'Tim, this is Jay. I'm alright, safe enough for now, with someone who's in it like us. I'm trying to get back to you, but we're on the road to New Jersey right now, there's someone who's in danger. Please be careful. Lay low until we can get back together. You know my number, call me ASAP. - Jay.'
To his surprise, his phone beeped a few minutes later, seeing Tim had replied to his tweet. With shaky fingers, he clicked on the notification.
'F**k you.'
He quickly took a picture of himself and a worn out Noah, then posted it.
'How about now? Please, Tim, I need you to listen. Trust me.'
He began paragraphs of replies, calling the picture fake, and Jay a troll, just trying to get attention. Throwing around phrases like 'this isn't a game' and 'you piece of garbage'. He was clearly angry. Jay asked him to call, and he said he would. He waited. And waited. No ring, only a final reply
'F*** you.'
He tried to reply, only to find his account blocked.
