Later that night Roman was lying in bed, and he couldn't sleep. He sighed and got up, letting the sheets fall behind him. He knew there was no way he was falling asleep anytime soon. There was just too much on his plate.

He looked around quietly, making sure he was alone. It was more of a habit than anything, but one could never be to sure. Once he deemed it clear, he went to the secret part of the wall and opened a small hidden compartment.

Inside were pictures and little things strewn about, seemingly random, but they weren't random to him. He picked up one of the photos and let a few tears fall.

It was him and his twin brother, Remus, when they were little. Their arms were strung around each other's shoulders and they were grinning. Remus had a toy mace hanging from his hand and Roman had a toy sword attached to his hip.

Remus had gone missing one night and after months of searching, was deemed dead. Patton was too young to remember him, but Roman could remember him clearly.

Remus was always the troublemaker, but despite the fact, him and Roman were practically inseparable. They were always around the castle causing trouble and spewing mischief. Even though they got into fights almost daily, nothing could keep them apart. Nothing, that is, until he disappeared. Roman remembered it like it was yesterday, how the whole kingdom was in a panic, and how he cried for hours.

His parents went on a rage, searching endlessly to get him back, but with no avail. It was decided then that he was not to be spoken of, especially to the royal family, because it caused too much grief. It was forbidden to tell Patton about him, believing the Prince was better off without the unnecessary sadness.

Roman thought it was cowardice, and how they should keep the memory of Remus, and not let him ever truly die. Everyone believed that Roman barely remembered him, but they were wrong.

He had scavenged the castle over the years, hiding and collecting pieces of his brother that were meant to be burned or thrown away. He had a whole little treasure chest of trinkets that held memories, most of them his own that he had shared with his brother when he was younger. He vowed he would never let his memory die, and never told his parents about it, for fear of their reaction.

"Hey Remus." He said softly, staring at the picture. "We will be turning 19 soon huh. Never thought I'd see the day." He laughed brokenly. No one could hear him, his walls too thick to have any sound come out unless he truly tried. Still, he kept his voice low.

"You know, I feel as if it was only yesterday when we were running through the kitchen, chasing each other and stealing sweets from the oven, getting chastised by the cook but then getting another as she sneaked one for us. Those were the days huh?" He couldn't help the tears roll down his face as he started quietly sobbing.

"God I miss you so much. I know it wasn't your fault, but why did you have to leave me? It's like I'm missing half of myself when your not here. We're supposed to be together so why? Why?!" He cried, sinking to the floor and clutching the precious box to his chest.

"I know your not gone, I know it, but I can't seem find you." He sobbed. "D-do you miss me too? We have so much to talk about, so much to catch up on, all you have to do is come back!" He was now laying on the floor sobbing. After a couple minutes he sat up and looked at the photo again.

"Screw those people who gave up on you. I'll wait as long as it takes. Don't you ever believe that I won't." He spoke to the photo, then he sighed. "I love you brother, and I'll never stop. I just hope you came back to me soon."

He slipped on the necklace in the box and put the box back into its hiding position. He grasped the gem hanging from the chain and ran his fingers over the rough edges. They had found this gem when they went exploring together, and their parents had created into two separate necklaces. Two halves of the same whole. Just like the brothers.

Roman laid in bed once again, but this time, sleep overtook him, and his dreams were filled with a smiling toddler and a glowing necklace.
