Chapter 7
The next day Shame woke in Rory's arms, it almost scared her to death before she remembered who it was. She let out a sigh of relief and started getting out of be but she stopped when she realized she had no clothes on. Slowly she got out of the bed and made her way to her bag of clothes, she didn't bring many but then again she didn't have very many, taking her undergarments, a pair of black cargo pants, and a green army tank top she walked into her bathroom. She turned on the cold water and stepped under, after a minutes she showered quickly but took a little more time washing her hair. Her hair was a bit past her knees and had a v-cut on the end. She had bangs that covered her eyes but most of the time she tucked them behind her ears.
Shame got out of the shower and wrapped herself in a towel, she stared into the mirror. Her skin was very pale and the mark Rory made on her was almost the same color as her skin so it was hard to see if you weren't close or looking. She touched the mark and a burst of energy ran through her, there was also a calming feeling that she couldn't quite put her finger on. Sighing she turned away and got dressed before walking out of the door. Rory was still fast asleep, he looked like a child with the innocent smile that was dwelling on his lips, Shame couldn't help but stared. He was so cute.
She shook her head and tip-toed out of the room, closing the door before she went down to the kitchen. Garath stood in the kitchen tapping his hand on the side of his leg as he listened to the music that was coming from his headphones which were plugged into his music player. Shame cocked her head at the sight, she knew he was listening to music but it was the tapping and the dancing that she had no idea what he was doing. The only dancing she had ever saw was the ones the pack preformed on big holidays or celebrations, though she wasn't allowed to take part she still watched and knew all the moves. Garath stopped when he saw her and blushed before he chucked. He pulled out a headphone and smiled at her.
" Hello Mercy. Are you hungry, why don't you join me for breakfast? I made waffles." He offered with humour in his voice. Shame couldn't ignore him, it was rude.
" Sure." She replied quietly and walked over sitting in one of the chairs at the table. She watched him take a few waffles before she took one, she proceeded to cut it up into small pieces while her ate slowly. Garath stared at her as he ate his food rather fast.
" So how do you like Downstream?" He asked in a chilled tone. She looked up at him and cocked her head again.
" You all are......different that what stories Sam told us as pups." Shame replied thinking of all the horrid things Blood Scar said they did. Garath laughed at this.
" That isn't very surprising. Who is Sam?" Garath asked leaning forwards.
" Sammael, the pack' story teller. He joined us when I was nine along with his brothers and sisters. They were named after angels." Shame said it like it was an obvious statement.
" Tell me about them, their names." Garath told her and she nodded like it was and order.
" Sammael the soul wolf is the oldest, Next are the twins Gabriel the messenger and Michael of miracles, then there's Anachel of grace, Raphael the healer, and finally there's the other twins Nathaniel of fire and Douma of silence. Most of them have mates except Sam and Gabe. Each of their mates have fairy names." Shame spoke slowly so she didn't leave anyone out.
" Who are their mates?" Cyanna asked coming into the kitchen.
" Michael's is Ellette the little elf, Anachel's is Kheelen the warrior, Raphael's is Laila the fairy angel, Nathaniel's is Nixie the water sprite, and Douma's mate is Drake the dragon." Shame turned her head towards Cyanna as she spoke.
" Why don't Sammael and Garbriel have mates?" She asked both her and Garath seemed eager to know.
" Their gay." Shame said simply as she finished her waffle and place the fork she had on her plate. Cyanna and Garath beamed at that, of course they were both gay and mate-less as well, they might as well give it a shot.
" Can we meet Blood Scar sometime?" Oke asked as he trudged into the room too, he walked over to Shame as fast as his little paws could take him and looked for her to pick him up.
She smiled but shrugged as she did so and place him on her lap. Oke snuggled into her and rubbed his head against her stomach. He was so small even though his blue-ish fur was long. Pups don't change into their human forms till they were around six or seven, or until they hit puberty. Oke and Loe were four so they still had a while but the other's already had human forms. Kina bounced in, her golden ringlets sprung around her shoulders and they cupped her face. Evangline, Ahshi and Zelda followed each one of the girls had a different shade or mix of red and blonde hair. Evangline was pure ginger, Zelda was white blonde and Ahshi was a mix her hair looked brown most of the time.
As Shame rose and went over to cook Kiana beat her too it with a smile. Shame looked and saw the kitchen was starting to get crowded so she backed out of it, trying not to draw attention to herself. On her way out she backed into something hard as she turned the corner, it was Rory, a shirtless Rory. All she could do was stare and he laughed, she looked up at him and he smiled at her.
" What's going on in there?" He asked.
" Breakfast, I think." She replied not looking towards the room she just came from.
" So why'd you leave?" He wondered.
" It got too crowded." Shame said simply and walked past him to sit on the living room couch. He decided to sit beside her, lacing their fingers he played with her hands. She closed her eyes and leaned her head on the back of the couch. He placed and arm behind her and pulled her close.
She froze and then snuggled closer as she remembered who she was by. Her mind still struggled with accepting he was her mate but as time moved on she got used to the fact, but something always made her worry he would suddenly reject her. She was used to rejection but the thought of him rejecting her was unbearable, it would break her completely. Laughter filled the kitchen as the others talked and joked around.
In truth Downstream was a very open, very peaceful pack. It was when others tried to harm them that they would become vicious, they had little mercy for those who tried to hurt them unless it was an accident or out of their control. Being like this was how they got their reputation, in reality the were just over protective of each other. They welcomed the innocent and kept a protective silent eye on the broken and the damned.
Shame fit right in with them, she was their missing peice. They had the happy, the hyper, the serious, the reckless, and both the young and old. She was the careful and the shamed. Though they didn't see her like that, in fact they all adored her. Every part of her was something that made them smile, her quiet thoughtful manner, her respectful responsible personality and her mother like instincts were what described her to a T. Everything she said was something interesting and her actions caused them to think.
Rory hummed to himself while she breathed evenly into his chest. Right then was perfect, neither of them wanted anything to change. They never thought it could get any better than this, it seemed so perfect like nothing would ever change and for a while it never did.
