[Part 14]

He still could not get the bitter taste off his mouth, could not get the sting of jealousy and disgusting anger away from his heart as he tore through the corridors. He knew he should not have visited Jack. Of all people, did he not know best that Jack’s inventions always involved side-effects?

Still, he could not understand how Renee’s fit of anger had totally blown out his fuse, leaving a painful emptiness and a roaring loneliness that had never set in ever since he turned vampire. It had been the same strange emotion of being entirely alone in the large world that he had felt after Celine-Marie’s death, but that had been the last time he felt that strange emotion –as a human.

He stomped down another corridor, still unable to let go of the anger that had built up again when he left the restaurant. Every bit of his mind screamed that no matter how anger he was, he shouldn’t be leaving his ward exposed to the potential danger. His mind told him that he needed to keep his emotions away, that even if he was angry, he should at least deal with it when Renee was considered safe.

But his emotions was –for the first time –stronger than his mind. His actions –for the first time –was fueled purely by his emotions of anger, and in the haze of mindless anger, he seemed to conceive the idea that Jack had something to do with it. Jean-Jacques reached the end of the corridor in record-speed, and with barely held-back strength, slammed the double doors open.

There was a loud shriek, and the sound of glass shattering.

“Laz, for the last time, grow some balls!” Jack’s displeased voice rang out, as the mousy assistant scientist rushed quickly to clean up the mess of the test-tube he had made.

Jean-Jacques was no more interested in the scared little scientist, as he turned towards the sound of the unhappy voice. This time, the urge was stronger, as was the bitter taste on his tongue. Jean-Jacques, for the first time, teleported in full view of a surveillance camera in the corridor, and reappeared right beside Jack. The scientist’s reaction was fast, but Jean-Jacques was faster as he grabbed the back of Jack’s neck, slamming the vampire to the floor.

Instincts made Jack lash out, but Jean-Jacques knew every single of Jack’s moves like the back of his hand. Anger fuelled Jean-Jacques’s every movement, as he slammed his foot down on Jack’s shin, keeping the scientist pinned on the floor, hand still closed around Jack’s neck.

“Jean-Jacques?” Jack asked in confusion after recognizing his attacker, the struggles ceasing. “What the hell?”

“Your tablet.” Jean-Jacques said lowly, glaring at the confused man. “Whatever you gave me during sunset is driving me crazy.”

“Crazy?” Jack repeated, looking him up and down. “You definitely are. Let me go.”

“I don’t want to.” Jean-Jacques answered, tightening his grip around Jack’s throat. “I want to kill you for whatever you did to me.”

“Chill!” Jack gasped, beginning to choke as Jean-Jacques’s grip steadily tightened. Vampires didn’t need to breathe to survive, but he knew enough that breaking a windpipe, gullet and vocal chords was painful enough. “Are… You… Out… Of… Your… Mind?”

“Thanks to you.” Jean-Jacques growled lowly. Every bit of his mind screamed that he was about to harm the very vampire he swore to protect, but his body didn’t care. He wanted to hear the crack of bones, feel the popping of gullet and windpipe underneath his hands…

“Whoa, whoa, whoa! What the hell, man!” Jean-Jacques distantly heard a shout, and he found himself flying through the air. The choking, coughing sound came quickly after, as Jean-Jacques landed safely a distance away, looking up to find Dante pulling a coughing Jack up to his feet.
