[Part 19]

“That’s great. Congratulations, Ethan.” Renee smiled genuinely, though the man wasn’t in person to receive her smile.

“I’ll be sure to invite you to our wedding. It’s thanks to you that we met, after all.” Ethan’s happy voice was a cause of celebrations, but at the moment she was more caught up in bemusement at the fact that Ethan’s new lover was in fact that florist that he always visited to get Renee flowers. In his attempt to win Renee back, Ethan had first found a friend in the florist named Dania, then somehow developed feeling for the described young woman. Eventually, Ethan’s trips to the florist became less centered on Renee, and more about Dania all the way until the two lovebirds finally got together.

Indirectly, somehow, it had made Renee their matchmaker even though she had never met Ethan’s new girlfriend before.

“I really wish you two happiness. It’s sweet that you found each other that way.” Even though Renee never believed in fairy tales and was often skeptical at dramas, romantic happenings like such always made her smile in enjoyment.

“Thank you, Renee. I’m so glad I met you in my life. You made me change into a better man, and you helped me find a woman that completes me.” Ethan gushed, but she could only maintain her composure instead of laughing.

“I merely dated you back in high school, Ethan.” She reminded, laughing along with Ethan’s rich laughter. Dania have really hooked onto a good man, and though she admired the commitment and love that oozed from Ethan’s voice as he described everything about his ‘goddess’, she felt a little jealous and incomplete. It wasn’t that she still wanted Ethan; no. But she was jealous that she had yet to find her man. Yet to find A man.

“Yeah, that’s true. Anyways, I’ve got to go. I’m on a movie date with Dania today; and I’m getting her chocolates. I would give her flowers, but you know… she deals with them so much at work, I think she’ll faint if she sees me with another bouquet. I’ll catch up with you some other time, then.” Ethan continued, and Renee replied her agreement, bidding goodbye.

“Bye. Oh, and remember to send me your invitation when you and your bodyguard Jean-Jacques get married.” Ethan signed off, hanging the phone conversation before she could put in the convenient news that she and Jean-Jacques weren’t even… dating.

With a sudden sigh at the reminder of a man who had once been so involved in her life, Renee put the phone back on its cradle by the wall and stared at the ornate antique-style phone she had in her home. How she wished it would ring, and she would pick it up to hear his voice through the phone. He could say anything; even scold her. He could even speak to her as if she were his sister. Anything; all she wanted to do was hear his voice.

But she didn’t want to hurt him, and the man himself was taking his caution around her too. It was obvious that he agreed with her way of thinking by how quickly he had another bodyguard attended to her; how quickly he left his phone perpetually always on the answering machine, and how she had never heard his voice since –not even through Louis’s or Alvron’s phone.

“Hey, hot babe!” The sultry, seductive voice brushed so close by her ear that she could almost feel the heat of the breath on her neck as Renee jumped in shock. Her soft shriek was quickly followed by amused laughter as her face grew red, turning to see the Casanova man bent over and laughing hysterically.

In the absence of Jean-Jacques came Louis and Alvron. Introduced to a new man who was the extreme version of Dante’s Casanova charms, she understood why Dante had initially insisted that she never come into contact with Alvron. Basically, every single woman in Alvron’s sight was a target, and that had been a major point of concern when Louis first brought Alvron to her mansion.
