They had dumped the body at the gate . She had been brutalized , her face was so swollen that you could not make out the features. Her clothes were torn and her her face and body full of bruises , she had hair and skin under her nails from where she had tried to fight back . There was so much blood in her hair that the color could not be recognized.
They thought she may have been dead when they dumped her . Retaliation against the King in the North for breaking the betrothal of his sister , after she had complained that she did not want to marry Ramsey Bolton . They had kidnapped a chambermaid of Winterfell, right outside the gates of the castle, making sure not to be seen. They made an example of her as to what they could do to his sister Arya if he did not comply or at least apologize publicly . Robb Stark had humiliated him. It was meant to be a warning . It got out of hand , as the men were all drunk and Ramsey being Ramsey was just the animal he always was.
When they forcefully removed the cloak she was beautiful , even though she wore no finery and was dressed in her plain clothes . Upon seeing her the men became agitated . Ramsey wanted her for himself so he was the only one who violated her , she initially begged for him not to touch her and started screaming and crying , saying that the King would kill him . Ramsey then gagged her with his handkerchief and she could no longer scream . She still fought back kicking , scratching and flailing as best she could . The King in the North would never start a battle over a lowly maid . Hell he probably had his way with her too , she was quite the beauty . Ramsey was drunk and he didn't care at this point. It was already done . He had had his fun , time to throw her back as message to Robb Stark .

They had been searching for her all night .
She had been in the castle in the afternoon and then was not seen since . She had not been seen at dinner . That's when Catelyn had become concerned and started asking anyone and everyone where Sansa was . Her handmaiden had said that Lady Stark had gone out to Wintertown to the market , she wanted to get some fresh air . She specifically did not want anyone to come with her as she was feeling stifled and wanted some freedom . She wanted to be independent as this was her home , she needed to be able to do things herself unencumbered. She had slipped out before the conversation was even over .
After another hour and no sign of Sansa , Catelyn became panicked and told Robb what had happened. Robb was furious that Sansa had gone out without her guard . He immediately had all his men looking for her . Jon, Theon, Arya and Robb scoured all the different areas of Wintertown and the surrounding areas . No sign of her .
Finally Robb suggested that one of them return to Winterfell and start interrogating the staff and look around the immediate vicinity of the castle . Jon went back . Theon and Arya continued on together rechecking areas they had scanned earlier in the night . Robb was going to go further out with his men to see if anyone had seen or heard anything.
Jon returned to Winterfell , most of the night had been exhausted , dawn would be breaking soon . He kept scanning his surroundings with Ghost by his side . As they were approaching the gates Ghost darted off to a heap in front of the gates . He started howling wildly . Jon got off his horse to see what was going on . As he approached he realized it was a body .There was a serving girls cloak draped over the body .
Jon panicked as he touched the body , it was of a woman she had been severely beaten , he turned her over to look at her. His heart cracked , it was Sansa. She was still warm , he checked for breathing and a pulse it was still barely there . He started screaming for the guards to open the gates . The gates opened and he gingerly picked up Sansa and started screaming for the Master to come immediately .
Catelyn was up she had not slept a wink , she was disheveled and her eyes red from crying. When she heard Jon screaming for the Master she ran out into the courtyard . Then she saw her . Jon was carrying her up the steps to the room , still screaming for the Master . Catelyn ran towards him . She froze once her eyes fell upon Sansa's face . It was unrecognizable .
Jon : Aunt Catelyn I'm taking her to your chambers go get the Master.
Just as Jon had said that the Master and his nursemaid appeared . Jon took her into the bed chamber and carefully positioned her on the bed .
Jon : Master Luen , she's still breathing and she has a pulse. I shall get Master Tarly to assist you .
Master Luen : No need I have already sent someone .Yes she is alive , she is breathing and has a pulse . Let me examine her . Nurse please help me remove these garments .
Catelyn stepped up and started removing her clothes .
Master Luen : Lady Stark you may not want to see this. Let me examine her first . Please step back .
Sam entered the chambers . The masters and the nurse examined her and the nurse gasped audibly at one point . It took over one hour. Catelyn and Jon never left the room . Jon put his arms around Catelyn and let her wail . Jon's tears would not stop either .
Finally Master Luen spoke : She will live , she has been badly beaten but she will survive. She needs rest, the next few days are very important . I will give her some milk of the poppy to ease her pain and help her sleep . From what I can tell there are some broken bones , but no internal injuries. But she is badly bruised and scratched , and definitely traumatized mentally . I am sorry to say but I fear she has been violated.
At that Catelyn passed out . Jon was shocked .
Jon : Sam ! get some water . Aunt Catelyn ! Aunt Catelyn!
