I woke up to find Lukas wrapped around me like a snake.
He's so adorable.
But my smile doesn't last long because when he stirs awake, he looks at me with worry once again.
"Hey." I say
"Hey"
My brother isn't in the room but I know he would be here by now.
"I guess we have to talk huh?" I try to smile.
He sits up and I sigh.
"Did you tell anyone?" He asks.
"My brother knows."
"You have to tell the police."
"I can't. There's no evidence and nobody will believe me."
"There has to be something the police can do!"
"I have to go to school with him!" I sigh. "And he won't go to jail so shit will get so bad and I don't want to know what he'd do to me."
"He's not going to come near you I swear to god." He looks so mad.
I smile at him.
"Why are you smiling." He looks genuinely confused.
"Because I like you."
Ah there's that smile. "I like you too. Wait don't change the subject gray!"
I laugh.
Justin comes in the room.
"What's going on?" He asks.
"I told him." I look at Justin.
He nods in understanding. "He needs to go to the police."
"That's what I said." Lukas says.
"It's pointless can we please stop talking about it?" I beg.
Even though the conversation is over for now I know that I can't avoid it forever.
-
Lukas said that he would stay with me for as long as I want so obviously I'm not letting him go home tonight.
We talk about everything and we paint together but I can't help but wonder where my mom is.
I haven't seen her in about a week now.
And that worries me.
Around two am Lukas is asleep and I go into the living room to find my brother on the couch. He hasn't been sleeping lately.
"Hey." I say sitting beside him.
"Hey what are you doing up still?"
"Can't sleep. You?"
"Same."
We look at the turned off tv.
"Have you heard from mom?"
Justin looks at me. "No."
"Do you think she's ok?"
He sighs. "Honestly? I have no idea."
-
Sunday goes a lot like Saturday. Laying around but with Lukas.
Which is the best feeling ever.
And then reality hits.
"Tomorrow's Monday." I say.
Lukas looks over to me. "What are you going to do?"
"I'm not going back there."
And we don't speak for a minute but I know he wants to say something.
"I really think you should tell someone."
There it is.
"I can't."
"You can Gray. And you're not alone. You got me and your brother right here ok?" He sits up from the bed to look at me.
"I'm scared."
"I know you are."
"I can't do it."
The stars haven't been shining as brightly as before. And there's something in the air. And I feel as though something horrible is about to happen.
