I woke up with the thought of the mini prom stuck in my head. Ugh. Prom. Dancing. Not good for me, or other people's safety.
I continued the usual weekend routine: staying in bed. I was there until Mom stomped into my room and ripped the blankets off. She pulled the curtains open and the light hurt my eyes. I put my pillow over my head.
"What did I do this time?" I asked, my voice muffled by the pillow.
"It's what you didn't do."
I pulled the pillow off of my face and let my eyes adjust to the light.
"What didn't I do, then?"
"You didn't get out of bed. The party is in 3 hours. You have a lot to do."
I groaned and sat up straight. I rubbed my eyes.
"What time is it?" I asked.
"3:30 PM."
My eyes shot open and I jumped out of bed.
"Oh, crap!" I complained. I knew I was a heavy sleeper, but not that heavy. "I'm off to take a shower."
I raced for the shower and stripped quickly. I turned on the hot water and jumped in.
"Don't take all of the hot water!" Diana, my sister, yelled. (A/N: Sorry. I really should have mentioned that Hayley had a sister before.)
"Okay!" I yelled back.
I finished showering quickly and wrapped my towel around me. I burst out of the door and ran into my room. Mom had already made my bed and put a dress on it. It was a strapless white dress that came just above my knees. I put it on and looked in the full-body mirror. I looked okay.
I opened my drawer and searched for some skin-coloured leggings. I found some and put them on. I looked in the mirror again. Better.
I realized that I hadn't checked my phone since I woke up. I walked over to my bedside table and picked it up. 4 messages from Stella, two from David and one from an unknown number.
Stella: i don't know
Stella: what do you think I should wear for the prom?
Stella: and you were right, David did tell me about it
Stella: Hayley?
I answered quickly.
Hayley: sorry i was sleeping. yeah, i know. im a deep sleeper
I checked the messages from David.
David: hey are you coming to my dance party? it's kinda like a mini prom. it's tomorrow at six. you have to ask someone, or be asked
David: wait, nevermind. my mom told me you were coming. cya there
That was... brief, I thought. I couldn't find the right word. Then, I checked the messages from the unknown number.
Unknown: hey, it's Jacob. i was just wondering if you were coming to David's dance party/mini prom thing. just let me know (:
Much wow, I thought. Jacob had just texted me. And he was asking me if I was going to the prom. Much, much wow.
