By the time I got to school I was completely soaked. It was still raining. I parked and locked my bike. I checked my phone. 8:13 AM. I was early. As usual.
I walked to the locker room and typed my code in. I opened it and searched for my Biology books. That's when Stella, my best friend, came in.
"Hey, Hayley," she greeted as she opened her locker.
She had her long, silky blond hair loose and her face covered in makeup. She was wearing a green and purple crop top and a purple skater skirt on. Her bright honey eyes looked at me, waiting for me to answer.
"Hey, Stella." I found my books and took them out of my locker. "Why are you here so early?"
"I don't know. I just felt like it today." She closed her locker with a slam and twisted the handle, locking it. I immediately knew something was wrong. I faced her.
"What's wrong?" I asked as I tilted my head slightly to the right.
"David is being a jerk." We started walking to the Biology Room.
"What happened?" I asked.
"I saw him hug Livy," she said, her voice full of jealousy.
"No way."
"Yes way. I think he doesn't like me anymore!" I could see tears piling up in her eyes.
"What you need to do is talk to him. Straighten it out. Don't do it by text, talk to him like a real human being would." She nodded and we walked in silence.
We arrived at the Biology Room and saw that David was already there. He looked bored before he saw us.
His brown hair was like it usually was: short. He was dressed in a green t-shirt and red jeans.
When he saw us, his blank face turned into a grin. His green eyes sparkled at our arrival.
"Hey, sweetie," he said, obviously saying it to Stella.
"Hey," she replied halfheartedly. I cleared my throat. He looked at me.
"Oh, hey, Hayley," he greeted when he noticed me. I just waved at him.
I sat down in my usual seat: at the back of the classroom. Stella sat down next to me.
"Go talk to him," I encouraged in a whisper.
"Now?" she whispered back doubtfully. I nodded. She awkwardly walked over to David and led him out of the room. I was all alone. I checked my phone. 8:30 AM. This was going to be a long morning.
That was when he came in.
His perfectly cut caramel coloured hair was untouched, his blue eyes were sparkling and he was wearing a plain red t-shirt and some ordinary jeans.
I tried to look away, but I couldn't. I was too busy admiring his perfectness.
A little while later, around 8:40 AM, David came back in, followed by Stella, smiling. She gave him a quick glance and then sat down next to me.
"So what happened? Tell me every little detail," I said. She smiled at me.
"We sorted it out. It turns out that Livy gave him a book he wanted for a long time, but, honestly, I think his girlfriend should do that," she informed. I waited for more.
"And?"
"He kissed me." She looked at David and blushed. "How's it going with you and him?"
"I'm not sure. I don't think he even knows my name."
Stupid School. School made me have to see him. It hurt me so much that there was the possibility that I wouldn't be able to be with him.
She looked at him again. She scraped her chair loudly across the floor and went over to him.
"Stella?" I asked in a weak voice.
They talked too quietly for me to hear. I could only just sit there and wait for Stella to come back.
I had my legs on the chair and my head in between my legs until she came back. I sat down properly.
"What did you do, Stella?" I asked, trying to sound threatening.
"You'll see," she said.
When it was about 8:55 AM, the rest of my classmates came in and sat down. The teacher came soon after that, starting the Biology lesson. Another stupid school day was about to begin.
