playdate

note: ricky and nini were in the first grade here :)

"mommy, can i please just come with you?" nini asks in a squeaky and pleading tone.

"sorry honey, mama c and i have some errands to run. don't worry, we'll send you off to richard's house so you two can play." dana answers.

"ugh, fine. can i bring some of my toys?" nini asks.

"sure honey. don't lose them ok?" dana replies.

nini nods her head and they all headed out the door. carol and dana drive nini to ricky's house. as soon as they arrive, they were greeted by lynne and ricky.

"hi lynne! thank you so much for letting nini stay with you for the day." carol says.

"no problem. she'll be safe with us and richard here will keep her company." lynne replies, patting his head.

carol and dana kiss their daughter goodbye. "be good ok?"

"i will." nini replies.

they all enter the house. lynne reminded ricky to be kind to her and no rough play. he nodded and the kids went up to his room.

"is richard really your name?" nini asks.

"uh ya, that's what everyone calls me." ricky replies.

"except me! i will call you ricky from now on. nobody under the age of 50 should be named richard."

ricky just went with it. the nickname ricky just seemed to click for him.

ricky asked what she wanted to play with and she replied that she wanted to play with her dolls. at first, ricky didn't want to, he wanted to play with his legos and race cars but nini promised that they would play with it after.

an hour has passed and ricky was so done playing with nini's barbie dolls. he pleaded nini to finally play with his toys instead but she said no.

ricky grabbed nini's favorite barbie doll and ran downstairs to the kitchen. he saw the microwave was open and put her barbie doll inside. as soon as nini reaches the kitchen, she saw her favorite barbie was ruined.

"RICKY! why would you do that!!!!" she cried and shouted, catching the attention of lynne who was upstairs in her room. she immediately went down to the kitchen, asking the kids what was wrong.

"he mic-microwaved my favorite barbie!!!" nini pointed at ricky.

lynne gave a disappointed look. "RICHARD! why would you do that?"

ricky didn't reply. she just stared at the crying girl.

"come on, say sorry to nini." lynne insisted.

"i'm sorry, nini. i won't do it again. promise." ricky replies, approaching the girl.

"it's ok. i'm sorry as well. we can play with your toys now." nini says, making ricky smile.

"ok good. now who wants some ice cream?" lynne asks and the kids excitedly jumped for joy.

as soon as they finished their ice cream, ricky and nini rushed back to his room so they can play with his toys this time. lynne was glad when she would hear the kids' laughter. it shows that they already got along after the barbie incident.

it was late afternoon when carol and dana picked up nini in ricky's house. on the ride home, nini told her moms about what happened and they couldn't help but laugh. she asked if she could come back to his house soon and her mothers' said sure. as long as their daughter was happy, they're happy.

during a family dinner at the bowen household, ricky told his parents not to call him richard anymore. instead he preferred now to be called ricky. mike and lynne chuckled as soon as he said that.

while lynne was cleaning up the kitchen, ricky asked his mother if it was ok to pass by the toy store the next day. she agreed to do so.

the next day, after hitting the toy store, lynne drove ricky to nini's house, as per his request. he was holding a new barbie doll that he had bought with his mother from the toy store. the exact barbie doll that he had microwaved the day before.

carol answered the door, seeing lynne and ricky. she invited them to come in, then called nini, who was in her room.

ricky gave nini the barbie doll and she was filled with joy. "hi nini, this is for you. i bought you a new barbie doll. the exact one i microwaved. i hope you like it."

nini immediately gave the boy a hug and kissed him on the cheek, making ricky's cheeks lighten up. "ricky! i love it! thank you so much."

"you should thank my mom, she's the one who paid for it." ricky says, making the adults laugh.

"but still, you should still thank ricky. he's the one who thought about this." lynne exclaims.

"thank you mrs. bowen and ricky." nini laughs. "do you wanna play in my room?"

ricky gave his mom a look, asking if he could and lynne insisted.

carol, dana and lynne were in the kitchen, having some tea and talking. they could hear loud screams and laughter from upstairs, saying they were doing fine and getting along.

ricky and nini have been even more inseparable since.
