always a bridesmaid

nina salazar-roberts loves the idea of love. she believes that everyone deserves romantic love. she grew up watching feel-good romantic comedy movies and reading some novels about love. that's why she's always been a hopeless romantic. but the problem is she hasn't found "the one" yet. sure, she has been going out on dates but none of them felt right. she was always labeled as the girl with way too high standards in men.

on the other hand, richard bowen was the complete opposite. he was a player, bringing home different girls every week. he never believed in love nor marriage, maybe because he never had the good role models for it. at just 12, his parents filed for a divorce, forcing him to move to chicago with his mother.

one saturday noon, nini together with kourtney, ashlyn and gina were having brunch in their favorite cafe, talking and catching up since they were all in slc. occasions like these were rare because they had careers to focus on. kourtney is running her own fashion empire in new york, gina owns and runs a dance studio in boston, ashlyn is a professor at ucla teaching music theory classes while nini was a music therapist in slc.

the girls were having fun and laughing. kourtney and ashlyn taking about how married life was going for them. meanwhile, gina announced that her boyfriend (since high school), ej finally proposed to her. when she broke the news, the girls squealed in excitement and congratulates her.

"ok guys, you all are gonna be there at my wedding right? as my bridesmaids ok?" gina asks and all the girls nod vigorously.

"we wouldn't miss it for the world, gi." nini responds.

after a few hours, kourtney and ashlyn had to leave and run errands leaving gina and nini alone together. "hey nini, would you be willing to be my maid of honor?"

nini was touched and reached for her hand, "wow sure gi."

gina stood up from her seat to give nini a hug, "thanks! you're the best."

nini got home late afternoon and just collapsed to her bed because she was so exhausted. after, she decided to take a shower so she walks to her closet to grab her favorite pj set. she was digging for her favorite pair when she came across the other side of her closet that consists of all of her bridesmaid dresses. all 15 of them.

she gave a sad smile while looking at the dresses. some of the dresses came from some of her cousins' weddings, the others were from her high school and college friends' wedding. two of them were maid of honor dresses since she served as kourtney and ashlyn's maid of honor. she groaned knowing that she would need extra space for a new bridesmaid dress. don't get her wrong, she loved being a bridesmaid or a maid of honor for her best friends, it's just that she was tired of being single. tired of being constantly asked questions such as "do you have a boyfriend?" or "when are you getting married?" she just wanted to settle in, find her true love.

gina and ej planned to get married in their old childhood town. with that gina asked nini to come in 2 weeks before the wedding to help her with some last-minute preparations and she agreed.

when they got to gina's house, they were greeted by two boys on the couch and talking. "hey guys."

ej stood up from the couch to kiss his fiance hello. "hey babe and oh- hi nini. long time no see. how are you?"

"hey ej. i'm great, thanks for asking. congratulations on the engagement by the way." nini responds as she gives him a hug.

"oh." ej starts. "i want you to meet someone. this is ricky bowen, my college best friend and he's going to be my best man at the wedding." he says, while ricky and nini shake hands.
