Requited V2 (Part 3) [Vincent Valentine X Reader]

You smiled at your phone screen, staring at the wallpaper of Vincent that you set - Tifa sent you the picture, the only one that was taken properly. At first, you felt slightly guilty for putting it but the sight of his face made you calm. You could feel your heart quickening but it made you feel comfortable. Although it felt kinda weird having him as your wallpaper without permission, you shrugged it off.

"(Y/N)!" You poked your head out of the door, Tifa's voice echoing through the stairwell. "Can you come down and help me for a while?"

"Coming," You called down the stairs. The phone you gripped tightly left forgotten on the bar table while you habitually moved to Tifa's side.

While you were helping Tifa, you didn't notice Cloud returning from his duties of delivering. His presence only noticed from his voiced shock. Your phone lifted and the look of horror flashing through your face. Before you could come up with an excuse or snatch your phone, the words stumbled out. "It's not what you think!"

Your face flushed while you took the phone from his hands and shakily moved to Tifa's side - using her as a shield. Cloud's gaze softened at your reaction, his shoulders tightening.

He stopped, his face scrunched but it was only for a second. "Tifa told me not to tell you but, Vincent has a girl in his heart."

Instantly, the mood in the room fell. You paused, feeling your throat turn dry. "I-" The words never left your lips. It stuck on your tongue, only for you to glance at the floor. Brown - that simple colour calming you down. "I'm okay with that. If it makes you uncomfortable or worse, him, I will change it right away."

You unlocked your phone, the mood a heavy burden on your shoulders. The process was quick and you brought up your phone for him to see the newly changed wallpaper. It seemed to be even worse that Tifa's look of concern was unwavering.

"(Y/N)-" he stopped, interrupted by the man himself, Vincent.

It was a silent gaze as he turned to you and took your phone. You feel sweat gathering on your back from his sudden appearance. "Vincent, I changed it-"

He turned the phone back to you, a silent request for you to unlock it. You watched curiously as he looked at the picture Tifa sent you. His face was unreadable but you could feel the blood rush to your face when he turned to you with a small smile.

"I'm fine if you want to put me as your wallpaper. The picture looks fine." He passed the phone back to you, gently patting your head. A small smile spread on his face before it turned stoic.

You looked at him, "Is it really okay? What...about the girl in your heart?"

Although it made the mood heavy once again, you couldn't simply just like him when he belonged to someone else. You felt him retract his hand, his eyes returning your gaze. "It's a long story, but I'm sure she wouldn't get mad at you."

From the fondness in his tone, you could feel the love he held for her. However, his sadness far outweighed the love. "I... Vincent, I lov-"

He placed his finger on your lips, "Not yet. I don't want you to wait for me."

"I will, however long it takes. Let me be by your side."

Vincent chuckled, pulling you into a tight hug. "This is the most I can muster right now. Are you sure?"

You wrapped your arms around him, gripping on the back of his cloak. The both of you stood there for a moment, enjoying the comfort of the embrace. Only to hear Cloud clear his throat loudly, Tifa smirking beside him. You could already hear the questions she was going to bombard you with later.

"Guess it's time for me to go, text me or call me whenever (Y/N). I will see you soon." You exchanged a smile with him and he left, your heart still thumping loudly.

You hoped to see him again soon, this time, the both of you prepared.
