(three weeks later)
Violet was walking to the local cafe to meet the girls.
When she got there she saw that Amber and Coral were already there, and she sat down with them.
"Hey guys!" Violet said rolling down the sleeves of her green sweater.
"Hey, what's up." Amber said, messing with the sleeve cuff of her striped black and white sweater.
"Hello!" Coral said cheerfully, waving a hand mostly covered by the sleeve of her light blue cardigan.
They started talking and after a little while Ariel rushed over. She pushed her hair out of her face and sat down.
"Sorry I'm late!" She apologized. "What happened this time?" Amber asked. "Well, I was getting some coffee when I ran into this super cute elf guy, but he wasn't really interested." Ariel explained, her hands waving as she spoke quickly. "Then I realized that I didn't need to get coffee anyway because I was going to meet you guys here."
Violet laughed, rolling her eyes. "How does one just forget that they don't need coffee to go and meet people, for coffee."
Ariel shrugged.
"Sorry about the guy, Ari." Coral said kindly.
"You need to stop trying to flirt with anything that walks," Amber said, bluntly, rolling her eyes slightly.
"Ariel, Wait for someone to come to you." Violet added.
"Yeah, maybe I'll try that. Only if you guys maybe try to get out of your comfort zone a little and meet someone." Ariel said. "We won't be young forever."
"Ariel, we're witches, we're young for as long as we want." Violet corrected.
None of them, besides Ariel, had ever been in a relationship. Though Ariel was a very romantic person and fell in love easily, it didn't seem to work out for her. She also has tried to play matchmaker for the other girls
According to Amber, she's tried to set her and Coral up with many people. Coral was also a slight romantic, but she just wasn't as forward as Ariel. Amber, though, like Violet, seemingly had no interest in a love life. They sat and joked for a while, until they heard a loud noise.
They heard people in the cafe start to scream. The four of them jumped up and turned to see a whole in the wall of the cafe. Standing next to it was an enormous beast. It's feathery wings were spread out and flapping angrily. The monster screeched and snapped its beak at the customers.
"Oh god, that's a griffin!" Violet screeched, "I've never seen one get so close to people before."
"Why don't we save your comments about how crazy this is for AFTER we aren't in immediate danger." Amber whispered.
"What do we do?" Coral asked, anxiously.
"We team up and fight the thing." Amber said.
"What? Are you crazy?" Ariel exclaimed.
"We're going to have to work together, if we start using individual powers we won't do much good." Violet said.
"Right," Amber said, keeping her eyes on the griffin who was trying to eat the baked goods in the display case.
"Ok, I'll get a large rock out of the ground, Amber set it on fire, and Ariel, use a gust of wind to throw it at the griffin, Coral, use a blast of water to help Ariel." Violet said.
"I can't believe we're doing this." Coral said anxiously.
"Normal people would just call Beast Control, but whatever.
"Does everyone know what they need to do?' Violet asked impatiently, tapping her foot. The three girls nodded their heads.Violet got on her knees and placed her hands on the ground.
"Guys, watch out for the griffin; make sure he isn't coming at us." Violet said closing her eyes and focusing on what she was doing.
The tiled floor below her hands started to crack and a large boulder emerged from the earth.
"Amber, quickly please," Violet said, trying to levitate the boulder.
Amber put her hands on the large rock, and set it ablaze. Ariel and Coral put their hands together and were able to launch it at the griffin. The griffin shreaked and turned to dust. People stared at the pile of dust and rubble.
A middle-aged man walked over to them. "You saved my cafe! Thank you girls so much! Not sure how we'll get out I suppose... but thanks a bunch." The store manager said cheerfully.
An older woman pushed forward, they recognized her from paintings at their school, it was their headmaster, Madam Luna.
"I've haven't seen something like that since...."
"Since what? Is there something wrong Madam?" Violet asked.
"Girls, I'm going to need you to come with me." Madam Luna said.
She turned towards the destroyed entrance and waved her hand, clearing the rubble.
"Thank you Madam! Everyone can leave now." The store manager cheered.
The customers rushed out the door.
The headmaster sighed, "Let's get to somewhere a bit more secure ladies."
They followed her out of the cafe and to a teleportation booth. These booths are placed around the city and make it easier for everyone to get around. To normal humans they just look like telephone booths.
The five of them stepped inside and Madam Luna put in the address of her office at the school.
When they got to her office, Madam Luna locked the door and had them all sit down. Coral tapped her foot anxiously.
"Could you tell us what's going on?" Amber asked. Amber was sitting on the armrest of one of the chairs in front of Madam Luna's desk.
"Yeah, why are we here?" Ariel questioned, playing with her hair.
"You said you'd seen something like this before, what does that mean?" Violet inquired, playing with her sleeve.
"Girls, do you all know of the Great Prophecy?" Madam Luna asked. They all nodded their heads. "Well, every 40 years, the prophecy is supposed to come true," She paused.
"The one thing all have in common is that they've all combined their powers," Madam Luna explained, "The reason this is so special is because everyone functions at a different power level, which stops people of different elements from being able to successfully work together."
"So what you're saying is that you think we're the four witches in the prophecy?" Violet said slowly.
"I do,"
"You're kidding," Ariel, her eyes wide with shock. Amber sat up.
"That's frickin' crazy!" Amber mused.
The headmaster looked over towards Amber in slight disapproval and turned back to the group.
"What does that mean we have to save the world?" Coral asked timidly.
"Unfortunately, yes," Madam Luna said,
"Normally the threat comes in waves, then at the end of your school year, it hits a bit harder. Seeing as how the world is still intact, everyone else has succeeded, but that doesn't mean you can take this lightly."
"Wasn't going to," Amber said bluntly.
"So, where do we go from here?" Violet asked.
"You'll have some of your classes replaced with training, with me. Other than that, you'll need to keep vigilant." Madam Luna said, " Whether you tell your families now is up to you. You're free to go, I'll send you your training information in the coming days."
"Ok, well, thank you, Madam." Violet said.
The girls said their goodbyes and left the room in slight shock and worry.
