Chapter 9: Getting Comfortable

"What do you usually do in here? I'm so bored..." Paul sighed. "Well, usually they will let us hang out with others here, but you and your friends must've changed things for today." Selene replied. The door opened and two guards came in. "Report to the dining hall." one ordered. The three of them walked to the dining hall together and saw all of his friends and some new people. "Paul!" someone smiled. He looked around and saw Kasi. "You're okay! You look pale though..." Paul said. He noticed a boy about his age standing by Kasi with a small group of half-asleep people. "Who's that?" he asked. "Um well," Kasi turned to the boy, "I never got your name." "Tyler. My name's Tyler." he replied. "Who are those people you came in here with?" Kathryn asked. "Well-" "Hey! Meat, come over here. We're all gonna have a chat while we're all together." Jason barked. They all sat around a huge table. On one side the eight friends, and Kasi's friends, sat across from Jason, Selene, and the triplets. "Now," said Jason, "This will go by quicker if you do what I say and do not piss me off." "Jason, really? Why be like that?" Will asked. "Down the row," he ignored Will, "tell us your name and power." "Kathryn. Telepath." "Morgen. I have wings." "Alyssa. Invisibility." "Rachel. Warlock." "Lucia. Predict future." "Paul. Werewolf." "Whitney. Control elements." "Kasi. Living dead." No one spoke. Jason just looked to the triplets with a look of concern.

We don't have to listen to what you say." Kathryn remarked. "I think it's only fair to tell them our names and powers." Will replied. "Whatever." "Will. Ability to make and control lightning." "Jace, Super strength." "Jem. I'm a shield." "Selene. Vampire." "Jason. Vampire..." he muttered. "And what did anyone accomplish out of this?" Jem asked "I'm trying to figure out what the whole purpose of suddenly kidnapping eight more people. They told us weeks ago that no one else had to be used as soldiers. They said we were enough to send to Russia when the time came." Jason hissed. "It's obvious they want more of a variety. They have finally figured out how to make psychic to use against the Russians. They need Lucia to tell them their plan of attack." Johnathan said. "Why would they make another wolf though? It went so badly last time..." Selene said. "Wait, what happened to the other wolf?" Paul asked. "Our sister..." Jace started, "lost control and went mad. She suddenly couldn't control her actions and some guards had to kill her." Tyler made a noise in the back of his throat and indicated to the gashes on his chest. Will and Jace looked at him sadly but averted their gaze back to Jason. "Why didn't you tell me this before?" Paul asked Jason. "It isn't my story to tell..." he said bluntly. "Wait!" Rachel exclaimed, "They purposely made us this way?" "Sadly..." Jem muttered. "They also like to experiment." Whitney said. "Wait, are you Whitney?" Jason asked. She nodded. "What did Mia want from you?" he asked. "I can't say," Whitney said looking down at her lap. "You can't say?!" Jason asked enraged. "Yes," she replied sternly. "You can't say or you won't? Do you think this is some joke?!" Jason yelled. "If I didn't care about my friend's wellbeing then I would. But sadly for you I actually care about whether they live or die. So no I won't tell you what that demonic lady called me away for, but by all means I dare you to go ask her!" She snarled.

"So now where does that leave us?" Jem asked to no one in particular. "I don't know," Jason said sounding exasperated. "Have none of you tried to escape?" Paul asked. "Surely there must be a way out of here," Lucia stated. "We have tried," Jason said. "All attempts have come to no avail," Selene said sadly. "What would we do if we even went back outside? Would we fit in? Try to be normal?" Whitney asked. "I can't go out in public again!" Rachel exclaimed. "Wings would be hard to explain to people..." Morgen agreed.

This lasted for a while until Mia came into the room. Whitney tensed up at the sight of her. "What do you want?" Jason asked. "Things are going to be different. We are going to be pairing you up." she said. "Why?" Morgen asked. "They want to see how we act with others. To see if we can handle the separation." Kathryn explained. "Yes," Mia said annoyed, "You will still see each other during meals and free time, but during your training periods you have all been paired up with a partner who will be your fighting partner. Your mutations complement each other, that is why you are being separated." "Who are we with?" Jason gave a protective glance at Selene. Mia pulled out a clipboard. "Jason and Rachel, Alyssa and Jem, Morgen and Jace, Kathryn and Will, and Paul and Selene." she finished. "You're putting my sister with the wolf?!" Jason yelled. "Yes." she replied. "No you are not! He could lose control and kill her!" he growled. "Jason, it's okay. I can take care of myself." Selene reassured. "If she gets hurt," Jason looked at Paul, "I'll kill you." Paul glared at Jason. "Trust me I'd rather be with my friends then your sister. "What about me, Lucia, and Kasi?" Whitney asked. "Whitney, you will be alone, however a guard will be with you 24/7. Lucia will follow me, and since we have no use for failed experiments we-" "Are you going to get rid of us?" Kasi asked. "You're dead. You shouldn't be here..." Mia answered. "But I am. That should count for something." Kasi said. Mia exhaled loudly. "Well, I guess you and your...uh friends could be put in another place. Only if you're willing to fight with us." Kasi nodded. "We will." "Okay, everyone report to your new rooms immediately.
