hi kate 😁

[ Luke Hemmings,
St. Frasiers Hospital, 7:48 PM ]

Her mothers file read, Alizabeth Mary Jennings-Abbot. Born October 6th, 1981. Her last checkup was May 24th. Her status deceased.

"Not too long ago," Ashton hummed. "Does it say the cause of death?"

"No, It doesn't."

Her fathers file read, Oliver Q. Abbot. Born December 23rd, 1974. Her last checkup was Augusr 28th. His status is Alive.

"He doesn't even live that far away," I pointed at his address, "Why the hell isn't he taking care of his daughter?"

Before the other two could agree with me and get angry, Dr. Deaton rushed in and froze when she saw our faces.

"Oh, so sorry for interrupting—" She quickly apologized, tucking a hair behind her ear and looking down at the clipboard. "We've officially diagnosed Charlie, and she's awake. She has low iron deficiency, severe malnutrition, and she's underweight and dehydrated."

I nodded, looking down and biting my lips nervously. Poor girl.

"I'm sure you already know this since you're a doctor as well— but it's treatable," She said, "We're prescribing some anti-biotics and I suggest you pick up iron pills from a store near by."

"Thank you, Dr. Deaton." Michael smiled. "Come on, let's check up on her."

[ Charlie Abbot,
Her Hospital Room. ]

"How are you feeling?" The kind nurse asked me as I looked around. I was tired.

"I'm feeling—"

Before I could finish my sentence, the famous three doctors rushed into my hospital room— bumping into one another as each one stopped in their tracks.

"Charlie!" Michael beamed, "How are you feeling?"

"I'm feeling fine," I repeated.

"Great!" Luke beamed with relief. "We're free to take you home, so when you're ready, let's take you home."

"Can we see my uncle first?" I asked.

"Of course." Luke said, grabbing the hospital bag from the bench.

I got up off the bed, put on my shoes and made my way to my uncle's hospital room with Luke's hand on my shoulder.

"Hi." I greeted my uncle as I entered his room.

"Hey," A smile curved on his face, "What's up?"

"I just wanted to know if you had my dads ring? I know I had it but,"

He nodded and dug inside his bag, retrieving the black ring that fit my thumb.

I had been given this ring when I was born, and haven't gone a long time without it in my possession. As much as I hated my father, I loved the stupid ring.

"Thanks," I said quickly. I stuffed the ring into my jean pocket and turned around, running into Ashton's chest.

"Sorry," I quickly apologized. I tried to walk out of the room as quick as possible, but Luke stopped me.

"What's—"

"Can we forget about that?"

[]

"I-I'm just gonna go to sleep now, I'm tired." I smiled nervously. I grabbed my plate and rinsed it off in the sink.

"Alright," Luke hummed, sending me a small smile.

I ran up the stairs with Strawberry following behind. I walked into the guest room, and threw myself onto the bed dramatically.

"There's a guest bathroom right there," Luke spoke up— making me jump and scaring me, "The bathroom already has shampoo and conditioner, toothpaste and toothbrushes— pads and tampons if you need them." He sends me a smile.

"Thanks." I genuinely thanked him.

He nodded and left the room. I closed the door behind him, locked it and walked into the bathroom. I silently put my hands on my hips and looked at the mirror.

My dark red hair fell past my shoulders and the brown roots following through. My under eye circles as dominant as ever.

Today was hard. I was tired, and felt like sleeping forever.

I rubbed my eyes and turned toward the shower.

I could use a shower right about now, I thought.

I stripped off my clothes, grabbed two towels, placed them on the toilet and stepped into the hot, running water.

[ Thirty Minutes Later ]

That shower might've been the best thing I've ever felt in my entire life.

My uncle, Vincent, doens't get hot water at his apartment because he doesnt see why we should use it if we can just have cold water. Which makes no sense, but why argue with an old man.

Hesitantly, I turned off the shower and opened the sliding shower door. I quickly wrapped a towel around my body and looked at the clothes I'd set out, which were obviously dirty.

I sighed, accepting defeat and slowly put on the robe Luke had left in here and left to find him.

"Luke?" I softly said, walking into a bedroom that's door was open.

"Yeah? What's up, Charlie?" Luke asked, sitting up and looking at me.

"I— um, I need a t-shirt." I shyly said.

A big giant smile grew over his face when he got up, opened his closet door and examined the contents. After a second, he handed me one of his bigger t-shirts.

"This should work." He smiled. "Tell me if you need anything else,"

"Thank you," I smiled up at him and quickly rushed back to my room before anyone else saw me in just a robe. I shut the door and rushed into the bathroom, changing fast.

When I was done, I took out a clean toothbrush from the bathroom drawer and toothpaste as well, and started brushing my teeth.

As I did so, I began to think.

What am I doing here? I softly asked myself. In this big house with my puppy, fully clean?

I spit out the leftover toothpaste, seeing blood in my saliva.

I don't crush my teeth often, no scratch that— I can't brush my teeth. My uncle sees no point in paying for a water bill when we could buy water from stores.

I exhaled and wiped my mouth with a towel.

Once I was done, I put on some pajama pants I'd taken from home and put my hair up in a messy bun.

I flopped onto the bed and crawled under the covers, beginning a netflix show on the TV that was placed in the guest room. But before I could start it, I heard a knock on the door.

"Come in," I silently said. I watched the golden blonde doctor walk into my room with a small smile on his face, "What'd I do this time?"

"I have a small question, Charles."

I narrowed my eyes slightly, "Okay . . .? What is it?"

"When was the last time you had a checkup?"

And just then, my ears began to ring.

"I'm sorry?"
