Hey guys! Acacia here. I'm a new journalist here at Fatal Fantasy. I'm in love with writing and journalism, so be sure to stick around for my articles!
WARNING: spoilers ahead for the Maze Runner movie and book! You've been warned!
This past week I went to see The Maze Runner in theaters. I was super excited, but I don't think it lived up to exactly what I was expecting.I read the book and finished it just a few days before going to see the movie. Firstly, I have to compliment the choice in actors and actress. Dylan O'Brien (Thomas), Kaya Scodelario (Teresa), Thomas Brodie-Sangster (Newt), Will Poulter (Gally) and many more amazing performers were featured here. They fit their roles perfectly to me, and I cannot wait to see them in the next Maze Runner movie.
Apart from the cast, the setting of the movie bugged me. James Dashner (author) was sure to include specific details about the Glade. For instance, Thomas sees the Runners run into the Map Room, which reportedly has a large steel door. In the movie, however, the Map Room is easily accessible and pretty much anybody can waltz in and see the map of the Maze, which is supposed to be hidden. Yet I do have to applaud how technologically advanced the movie was. The Grievers looked amazing and unreal. The Maze itself also stunned me. The stone walls and ivy looked intimidating, just like I believed they should.
And one last comment from me; the storyline. Or, pieces of it. There was nothing to mention of the Griever Hole or the Cliff, and they didn't mention the Blades in the books. Also, Gally followed a different path in the movie, overpowering the Gladers rather than going crazy and talking about the Variables. Not to mention, Alby died in a completely different way, and Gally died, which he didn't in the book.
Overall, the movie did amaze me. It was different than the book, but it didn't ruin the movie entirely, or much at all. I cannot wait until next year when Scorch Trials comes out!
I do apologize for a sort of short article here, but they'll hopefully get longer in the future.Keep Dreaming,
Acacia
