His eyes open and his head tilts towards me. He breaths out as he says it back. I only get his eye's attention for half a second before he looks out the window at the end of the hall.
I shift in my seat and look the same way. He doesn't seem to want to talk but I feel like I should be more open towards him, considering his family had been kind with their watching over me as I stayed here waiting for him.
I avert my gaze back to him, deciding to break the silence between us. With hesitation, I decide to speak.
"How do you feel?"
He looks at me for a second, and I feel as if his dull, dark brown eyes are studying and analyzing every part of either my face or my soul. I can't tell. It's another moment before he opens his mouth.
"How am I supposed to feel?"
Blood rushes to my cheeks and I look down. "Sorry."
"No," he moans. He leans back once again and rubs under his dark eyes. I can tell he hasn't slept well for a long time. "Aren't you his friend? His best friend?"
His eyes look into mine again while his face stays stone-cold. I had never been able to stare into his eyes this long. I had always gotten uncomfortable, yet here I was, talking to his brother, and I was fine. I knew a lot about him, his brother. He was someone people generally liked and he was popular. He was cool. I had never felt like enough for him, even though I was mostly sure he had told him about me a few times.
"Yeah," I nod with a smile before looking away to hide it.
"You like him, don't you?" he asks in the same deep and comforting voice he used to. It calms me in almost the same way.
There's no use in trying to hide my answer. "Yes."
