It was a few hours into their Monday hangout when Kiawe got an alert. Amethyst looked up confused at the sudden noise and Kiawe groaned. "I have to go, it's Ultra Guardian stuff." Amethyst smiled. "I get it, you be safe." She pulled him into a hug that he quickly returned. She walked him out of the house and helped him get his riding gear onto Charizard. Against all rational thinking she pressed a quick kiss to his cheek and ran back to the house, shouting good luck. Kiawe's face erupted in a shade of red that would put a Tomato Berry to shame, before Charizard took off with no warning.
He shook his head as Charizard flew full-speed toward Mele Mele Island. After their friend and leader Ash left, Kiawe was put in charge, meaning he needed to have a level head and his focus would have to be on the mission. Charizard landed and Kiawe was quick to arrive in Uniform. He met up with his classmates and teammates in their Base, Lusamine on screen. "Alola Ultra Guardians." "Alola Lusamine." They replied in unison, voices blurring together into one. "We have a Stakataka on the loose nearby Paniola Town, your mission is to catch it and then release it back into its Ultra Wormhole." "Ultroger Miss Lusamine!" They made their way to their ride Pokémon, and Kiawe's worry grew for his friend. Stakataka are not the easiest to catch or deal with, and are pretty powerful. He knew she was strong, but she knew next to nothing about Ultra Beasts.
His worry only grew when they approached the island, not finding the Ultra Beast anywhere by the coast off of Paniola Town. His heart hammered in his chest when he saw the Ultra Beast approaching the land Amethyst lived on. "Charizard Flamethrower!" He wasted you time on calling out an attack, the attack hitting the unsuspecting Pokémon dead on, dealing a fair amount of damage. He landed on the ground, blocking Stakataka's path towards his friend's house. He quietly released Marowak and asked him to protect Amethyst until he returned. Marowak ran off, chanting wildly, and his teammates landed beside him.
Amethyst was inside her house preparing some dinner when a series of hard knocks on her door made her pause. She set the curry to cook and dried her hands, opening the door to find Marowak, staring at her intently. She let the Pokémon in, figuring Kiawe had sent Marowak in advance for something she didn't know. She played some of the curry and gave it to the Bone Keeper Pokemon, who took it gratefully and began eating. Cinderace and Greninja seemed to be on High-Alert when she called everyone in for dinner, and Dragapult was wrapped around her protectively. She couldn't understand why until she heard a loud explosion ring out, that came from not to far away. She opened the window to find a Giant Blocky Pokemon on the road leading up to Wela volcano and dead in front of her house.
"Greninja, Cinderace, Dragapult, you go help. I understand Kiawe doesn't want me to leave, but they need help. I'll stay here with the others and hold down the fort." Her Pokémon opened their mouths to protest but the look in her eyes stopped them. "Go kick some Ultra-Beast ass. I know you guys miss battling anyway." They nod and then proceed to go running out of the house, Marowak huffing at her partial disregard to Kiawe's wishes but stayed put and did his job.
To say the group was surprised when a Greninja and 2 unknown Pokémon appeared would be a massive understatement, at least for everyone minus Kiawe. He just held back the small amount of laughter and continued battling, Dragapult and Cinderace slamming into the Giant Pokémon with force. Dragapult fires off a Dragon Pulse and Cinderace ignites a stone before kicking it towards the Rampart Pokemon. Greninja just sighed, forming a Water Shuriken and throwing it, the powerful attack severely damaged Stakataka, who was beginning to falter at the barrage of attacks. Kiawe took the opportunity and threw a Beast Ball, successfully entrapping the Ultra Beast inside. He made the mental note to thank Amethyst as he grabbed the Beast Ball.
The others had now surrounded the mysterious Pokémon, and Kiawe stepped in. "Come on guys, leave the Pokémon alone, we need to release Stakataka back into it's wormhole and then we can head home." Sophocles pouted. "But they are so cool! Are you not going to let us try and catch them?" Kiawe shook his head. "They help out on the Island from time-to-time, and they already have a trainer." Mallows eyes light up. "Really!? Who?" Kiawe shrugs. "We don't know, no one does except for Olivia, and even she won't tell." Sophocles whined. "But I want to do some research..." Kiawe shook his head. "Not now Sophocles, we have to finish the mission and report back. I'm sure they'll be back another time." They reluctantly hopped on their ride pokemon, and Kiawe gave the trio a big thanks for coming to their aid.
After reporting, Kiawe was quick to make his way back, feeling warmth in his chest at the thought of Amethyst sending out her Pokemon to help. It would take him a while to fully admit, but he had feelings for the girl. Her action earlier in the night lingered in the back of his mind, and made his feelings slowly grow for her. How he grew so fond of his neighbor so quickly is something that he can't even understand, but he didn't need to understand. He just needed to be there for her, and be by her side. He wanted to be there every moment of every day, spending time and laughing with her, even though he would get completely pummeled at video games.
Amethyst greeted Kiawe as he landed, and he almost immediately thanked her for her help. She brushed it off and stepped out of the way as Maowak headbutted Kiawe in the stomach. He fell to the ground and Amethyst began laughing, Marowak attempting to scold Kiawe for leaving him. After a moment Amethyst held her hand out, easily pulling Kiawe to his feet and they made their way to the dining room. "So how'd it go?" Amethyst asked, placing 2 plates of steaming curry in front of them. Kiawe looked at her amused. "How do you think it went?" She hummed playfully. "I don't know, all I saw was you guys attempting to take down that Ultra Beast, so I sent out Greninja, Cindeace, and Dragapult to help." He chuckles. "Thank you for that once again. Without their help we would have spent a while longer." They begin eating after thanking the Island and Volcano. "So, you down for coming with me to the Trial Site?" Amethyst's eyes practically glimmered. "Would I? Of course! I want to learn about the Alola Trials, and maybe go through the Island challenge!" He chuckled. "Sounds great, I'll take you up there in the morning. Tuesdays and Thursdays are Trial Days, along with the weekends." She grins. "I can't wait. I'm sure Cinderace is raring to go, probably wants to meet some cool pokemon." She clears the table and they settle down on the couch, pulling up Mortal Kombat once again.
Amethyst selected Kitana, and Kiawe went with Shao Kahn. They fought against each other mercilessly. 'Finish him!' The tv called out, and Amethyst practically spammed the attack button. 'K.O.' Kiawe groaned. "How the hell are you so good at this?" She grinned. "I am great at video games." He sighed. "I guess so." They eventually settle for watching a movie, sharing a blanket, crammed together on Amethyst's tiny couch. Amethyst was the first to fall asleep, leaning into Kiawe's side, head planted firmly on his shoulder. Kiawe wasn't far behind, tired from the battle previously. The two fell asleep contentedly against each other, relaxed and exhausted.
