Danny's pov

The doctor explained everything to my mom in detail. I still couldn't believe I was...alive.
In the moments of the...forest situation, I accepted it.
I knew I was gone.
I already felt dead at the time.
And I still feel, dead...in a way.
Not sure why.

"Now, Danny," the Doctor said, making me zone back in the world. I looked at him. "Yeah?"
He cleared his throat. "I think now is the time for you to...tell us about what happened."
I don't know why I didn't expect this subject to come up. You don't just enter a hospital bleeding to death and not explain the backstory.
"I...um," I stuttered, my mom giving me worried eyes.
"Doc," she said, holding my shoulder. "What happened?"
"Let him take his time," the Doctor said, pushing her back a little.
"It's okay," I said. "Like I said before...it was Lloyd."
I took a deep breath.
"We were planni-" I paused. "I...was planning on a regular hangout. It wasn't, clearly."
The doctor nodded. "Danny, we need more information. The police needs to know about this."
My face turned into panic faster than you could blink. "What?" I said, my tone filled with fear.
"Danny," the doctor said, leaning closer. "We need to get ahold of this...Lloyd character."

"No, you can't!"

"Danny-"
"Please," I begged. "Just leave it be."
My mom looked more worried than ever. "Doc...what happened? Why did he do-" she took a second to analyze all of my injuries. "-This?"
I was quiet for a moment, but I finally spoke up. "He's homophobic," I barely mumbled.
The doctor leaned even closer. "I'm sorry?"
"He was homophonic!" I almost shouted.

The doctor gave a confused look at first, but then he finally put the pieces together.
I'm a dumb boy who likes boys...that got beaten up for it.

I wish I was normal, I repeated in my head.

And it kept repeating.

It took me a second to notice that my mom was crying, covering her mouth with the palm of her left hand, and I could tell that the doctor felt a bit uncomfortable.
"Well," he said, standing up and heading towards the door. "I'll give you guys a minute."

He left, leaving me with my now sobbing mother.
I put my arm around her, attempting to comfort her.
She rested her head on my shoulder.
"Danny," she sniffled.
"Yeah?"
"There's something me and your father  never told you about."
