Keres's POV

Pressing a soft kiss to Sam's head as he hugs me, I turn to unlock the door to my room.

"Keres?" I hum to show my attention to Sam's inquire. "When will mom be coming here?" I look quickly at him.

"Soon buddy. Why?" Sam shrugs quietly chewing on his lip. "What's going on Sam?" I ask kneeling on the floor to look him in the eyes as he diverts his attention to the floor.

"I just miss our adventures. And when mom gets here you'll be able to quit your job and play with me again right?" My heart aches as I gather my younger brother up in my arms.

"I'm sorry Sam." He looks up at me in confusion. "Bud, I won't be able to quit my job when mom gets here." His eyes water and he moves quickly to rub them. I catch his wrists in my hands. "It's okay to cry. It's disappointing. But you're going to have mom here to play with you and take you to places." Sam whimpers out a choked sob and my heart lurches in my chest. Stupid. Stupid. Stupid. I should have been more focused on him. Feeling my eyes water, I press a quick kiss to his forehead. "Bud." I catch his attention after pushing my tears back. "How about, every week if you're well behaved and staying out of trouble, I'll take you out for a day and we can do a siblings day?" I ask softly. He nods softly his mouth widening into a small smile.

"Promise?" A grin creeps onto my lips.

"Promise."

"That means no distractions and no work for the whole day!" I snort.

"Fine, Mr. Demanding." He frowns pushing away from me before slamming a pillow into me.

"Hey!" He giggles darting away. "Oh, you're so getting it now, brat!"

I watch in muted curiosity through the computer in the control room. The raptors pace lightly back and forth as the time for their training creeps closer. They had never actively shown excitement when it came to training. They enjoyed it, they made that obvious but they hadn't ever actively shown any excitement so their new chipperness startled both and Owen. Although it wasn't unwelcome at all from Owen, he just took it as a new chapter in their training, it was more nerve-wracking for me. What happened if they got too excited and accidentally hurt Owen? Or hurt themselves? I attempt to push my concerns aside and be as excited as Owen was. I mean, he has been working with the raptors for twice as long as I have been. He must know more than I do about them. But I couldn't help but feel as if something was going to happen. And soon.

Owen places a hand on my shoulder jolting me out of my thoughts quickly. "You ready?" He asks. I grin up at him, stretching my limbs as I clamber out of my chair.

"Hell yeah." He rolls his eyes holding the door open for me to quickly walkout. Owen had me near the gate if in case something went wrong I'd be there to quickly get him out and shut the gate. Minimizing the risk to the raptors since we wouldn't have to use force. Owen quickly types in his specialized code into the gate before walking in a shutting it loudly behind him with the food bucket. A habit he made as the raptor's never paid attention until they knew he had food. But today the Raptors didn't need any reminder as they were already patiently waiting for Owen and his commands.

The raptors take their usually submissive pose Owen always has to fight out of them before they start. Owen looks back at me surprised. I shrug gesturing him to start already. Blue eyes dart to where I am sitting and I nervously shift as his tail begins to wag softly. What were they doing? I again push down my concerns knowing Owen knew what he was doing and wouldn't push the raptor's too far. I watch as Owen tosses them, their earned frozen mice, and reel back in wonderment as they turn and place each mouse on the rock behind them, forming a sort of small pile. Owen facepalms before rolling his eyes and asking for another movement. The raptors do it with ease. Owen tosses another set of mice. Again the raptors place it down. The trainer huffs marching forward to grab the collected mice.

"If you aren't going to eat it, you aren't going to just play with it." He tells them but Echo growls loudly, taking a menacing step forward in a warning. Owen raised his hand looking at me over his shoulder. I blink in concern.

"Just let them collect them. They'll eat em when they're hungry." I offer, and Owen shrugs in agreement. The raptors and Owen continue the normal training routine, even taking some moves up a notch. The reptiles quickly gain more mice then they will know what to do with. Almost overflowing over the rock. Finally, after what seemed like only 5 minutes, Owen snaps his fingers releasing the raptors from they're training. Owen then turns back to me, to open up the gate.

Since his eyes weren't on the raptors, he didn't notice the 4 take offensive hunting positions and begin to approach Owen.

"Owen! Watch out!" I screech as Delta roars moving to pounce onto his Alpha. Owen spins around with a loud gasp as I rush to the gate's security bar.

"Keres!" Owen calls turn around and rushing toward the opening gate as the raptors follow quickly. A bad idea dawns upon me. A very very very bad idea.

I roll under the opening gate clapping my hands together loudly hoping to distract the raptors from their prey. They hate me right? This should work. I call out to the raptors right as they catch up to Owen. Delta stands onto of his Alpha, his claws pinning him to the dirt ground. I call out again and the reptiles heads shoot in my direction.

"Keres, what are you doing?!" Owen screeches in frustration. Charlie snaps at him, making the trainer fall silent.

"Owen, when I say, I want you to get up and run to the gate. Then close it." I demand, keeping my eyes on the 3 raptors approach. Delta still didn't move from Owen's chest.

"Close it?" He questions, his voice breathless from the weight of the raptor. Blue growls softly at Owen's voice, his eyes lock onto me as they approach slowly.

"Yes." I whimper out, trying to keep my fear to the back of my mind. "Delta! Come here, boy!" I coo as if talking to a dog. His tail wags serious and I'm almost afraid he's going to knock himself over. Delta takes a few steps towards me. "Good boy!" I praise and he quickly darts in line with his siblings. "Owen! DO it now!" I tell him. The sandy-haired man dashes to the gate, slipping under it before the raptors even notice he moved. The reptiles cock their heads towards the shutting gate before they slowly turn back to me and their eyes narrow on me.

That's when it hits me. They did this on purpose. And I had fallen right into their laps.

Blue takes another step forward.

Shit.
