chapter 36

After breakfast, I told harper that I had to go to a business meeting but would be back shortly.  Although it was a lie it still was technically the truth.  Before I left for the park I went to the warehouse and dropped of some of Harper's DNA, the quicker we find her parents the quicker she can move on and leave them in her past.

I was now stood in the agreed upon meeting spot waiting for max. I knew there was a chance that he had set me up but I also knew it was a public place and max unlike me would never do something as big as murder in public.
"You came" I turn around and see max stood smirking. He probably thought he had the upper hand but I picked this park for a reason, I knew every inch of it. I knew where to go and what to do if something went wrong.
"Yes, Logan said you wanted to talk" I told him already my thoughts drifted to killing him.
"Yes, I honestly dont know why we want to kill each other anymore. Aria hurt us both remember " he says sitting in the bench beside him. I thought about what he said, I guess he had a point. I hated him for sleeping with aria and getting her pregnant. I hated his parents more for making max betray me. At first I wasnt angry with max, just his parents and aria but he took it further by challenging me to my position.  He wanted power, he wanted to be the boss. That meant a fight till the death of course I won and I spared him. He then ran off creating his own pathetic little gang out of some of my members and some he picked up along the way. Aria left him as soon as he lost the fight, she too wanted power and when she saw I had won in a matter of seconds she wanted to get back together.
"You know why, you betrayed me, not only did you sleep with my girlfriend,  you wanted to over throw me" I say and so sit.
"Well it's not like you both were on good terms anyway" he says like it would make much difference.
" whatever, what do you want" I ignore him although what he said was true. She had lost my trust after what she did before and getting pregnant with max was the final thing I would put up with, I planned to break up with her but I wanted to do it painfully after what she did however max made it complicated.
"My parents know you have another girl,  they want to take her and destroy you. I dont know how they know but they plan to take her and only give her back in exchange for power" he said and my mind went to harper. Fuck. I left her alone. What if this is a set up, what if they keeping me out the house so they can take me. "Hey calm down man, they plan on doing it tonight. You still have time" he says.
"Why are you telling me all this" I ask with suspicion. 
"Isnt it obvious,  you know how I feel about dragging innocent people into our world and by the sounds of it shes still innocent" he said and I couldnt help but agree "I keep her away from the mafia stuff" I tell him. "I want a truce, i have suffered the loss of so many people, I dont wanna lose you. I still consider you a friend even if you dont" he said, this shocked me and as I began to think about it I realized that in a way we had a love/hate relationship.  I couldnt forgive him though, not yet.
"Thanks for the information but if there's nothing else I need to get back" I say standing up. As I do I hear my phone vibrate multiple times and then it begins to ring.
"Nothing else" he said, he seemed sad though. I shrug it off and take my phone out as I walk away.

Logan:boss we were able to find Harper's parents
Logan: it's not good.  Fuck we have a problem.
Ethan: I'm sorry
Derek ( hes the dna guy)  man we have a emergency
All the messages were the same, I knew from Logans first message that whoever her parents were it wasnt good.
