"Gosh, you look bad," Josh said and Maya looked up.
The guy walked over to his niece giving her a hug as Maya just smiled.
He was always kind the times she has seen him but that wasn't a whole lot."Hi, Maya if I remember correctly," Josh said and Maya nod.
"Yes. Hi, Dr Matthews. How are you?" Maya asked remembering what Josh was.
"I'm good. Wish I can say the same to my niece. Elli misses her mom," Josh said.
"I know. But I can't do this and I told Lucas that. Maybe he should just take them away and get it done with. This is my life," Riley said.
"A addiction is not your life. Riley, you can get through it," Josh said.
"No, I can't," Riley said as Maya sighed.
"He's right. You can get through it," Maya said as she walked to the girl.
"Is it my imagination or do you look better than the first time when I saw you?" Josh asked and Maya nod.Of course Josh could see the young girl was doing better but he wasn't sure if she was truly better.
"I am better actually. I spoke to my psychologist and it looks like I might be getting discharged next week," Maya said.
"Your husband must be glad," Josh said and Maya smiled.
"I don't have anyone," Maya said.Josh looked at the young girl and somehow those words hit him where he didn't think it would hit him.
Of course he knew it was just a few words but it did something for him which he couldn't actually describe."That's too bad. So your parents come to see you?" Josh asked and Maya shook her head.
"You're in this alone? Wow, that takes guts," Josh said.
"And I'm doing okay. To say the truth I need to get away from my father," Maya said.
"Looks like even a alcoholic struggles with abusive parents," Riley said and Josh looked at his niece.
"I hope you manage," Josh said.
