Chapter 30 ~ Rose Quartz

Spinel sat on the couch. Next to her, was a woman with long, curly, pink hair. She wore a white gown, her lips pursed before she spoke.

"Hi."
"Hey." was all she got for a reply.

"So...how have you been?"

...

"I'm not sure, how would you feel after your mom abandoned you in a forest to die and never came back, then you were taken in by a rich family that only consisted of women, so you go on in life being a horrible person since you have pain inside and you don't know where to put it, but then you meet someone extraordinary that helps you with that pain, and after many years, finally meet your mom again?"

"..." The woman gave Spinel a sympathetic look before talking. "They call me Rose Quartz now."

"Well, I call you Mom." Spinel mumbled.

"You...." Spinel couldn't see her in the dark, but could tell Rose Quartz choked back a sob. "I'm surprised you still call me your mother. I thought you'd be more angry than that."

"I..." Spinel bit her lip to keep from crying, then threw her arms around Rose Quartz, stuffing her face into Rose Quartz's shoulder.
"I mished yuu. I hate chuu." The magenta-head said, but the voice came out muffled.

"I-I'm s-so so-sorry...my Spinnie...." Rose Quartz returned the hug, pulling her close and stroking her head.

"Why...why did you leave..." Spinel banged her fists on the woman. "You suck! You suck! You suck! I hate you! I can't believe you left me to die!"

"..."

"I didn't leave you to die. I left you in care with the Gem family."

"What? Wh-what do ya mean?" Spinel wiped her tears.

"I mean that Pearl finding you was supposed to happen. It wasn't just a coincidence. I could never leave you without anyone to care for you."

"..."

"...I hate you.."

"I know."

...Silence filled the room until Spinel spoke.

"So, where'd you run off to?" She asked coldly.

"I left because I knew I couldn't take care of you. I was too selfish, and got tired of you easily. You became irritating...I knew eventually I had to escape." Rose Quartz replied sadly.

"Ugh....so you gotta kid now?"

"Yeah...I was washing my car, when I realized I couldn't pay for it. Then, the man who owned it said I could pay for it by going on a date with him. I reluctantly agreed, and eventually....I realized that I wanted him. So fast forward a few years later, Steven is born. I've been taking care of him ever since.."

"Did you ever—" Spinel was interrupted by a large embrace.
"I thought about you every night. I called the Gems everyday to ask if you were alright." The curly-haired woman said.
"I'm so sorry Spinel...I was too irresponsible and selfish to take care of you...I knew I wasn't going to change, so I left you...I'm so...so sorry."
"..."
"I'm not gonna fucking forgive you."
"I know. But it's okay. I'm not asking you to forgive me. I just wanted to let you know I deeply regret leaving you."
"...okay."

Spinel continued sobbing into her mother's embrace for the rest of the night.
In the morning, the two were found sleeping on the couch. Spinel on top of Rose Quartz, and Rose Quartz leaning on the couch. Spinel softly snored, her arms around Rose, and Rose returning the hug.
