As I walked out of school, I knew I was dead as soon as I got home for being suspended; even though I simply defended myself. As soon as I step foot outside I feel my phone vibrating in my pocket, sending chills up my spine for what was to come. Taking it out, I saw my grandfather is calling.
"Hey, Grandpa,"
"You wanna tell her or should I?" I instantly felt the truest form of primal fear as I had to think quickly to avoid my grandmother because I got in trouble again.
"For my sake, I think you should, however, for your sake I should."
"I'll tell her,"
"I think I'm going to stay in the forest for a bit and train,"
"Smart move, just know, you feed yourself out there,"
"I know Grandpa, I'll see you in a couple of days."
"Seeya kiddo,"
With that, I hung up and put in my earbuds to walk to the forest I had designated for training. As I began walking I had the instinct to jump which means, that one of the bully's delinquent friends is after me most likely. I jumped into the air and saw Spikes sticking out of the concrete. I really didn't feel like dealing with this idiot so I just kept walking, the guy continued to try launching spikes at me through the ground, luckily, the shadows always warned me where and when to jump, dodge, or counter said strikes. as I continued to walk farther away from the school and further towards the forest that I trained in, I began to feel a new presence following me. The only issue was that the closer I got to the forest the more people seems to be staring at me, and even though I was used to it, this felt new, more intense. I was surprised to see more awe than confusion displaying on peoples' faces I rounded a corner and tried to figure out who or what was following me. When I did take the corner I turned and saw that my shadow was holding another shadow. "Whose is that?" "No clue, but it really wants to talk to you," "Odd, but okay," I reply somewhat caught off-guard as the shadows don't normally need to talk urgently and if they do, they don't wait for me sit down and talk to them, they just say what they need to. I continued walking and eventually hit the edge of the pine forest, I was immediately hit with the strong scent of pine swimming all through my nose making its way into my brain and completely taking over my senses, only getting stronger as I continued to walk deeper into the trees. Eventually, I make it deep enough that there are no sounds, sights, smells, or signs of humanity's activities. I continued to walk deeper into the woods simply enjoying everything about the forest including the scents hiding within the scent of pine such as faint traces of sulfur from the nearby hot springs, blood from the wolf dens, and the tiniest scent of smoke from the forest fire miles from here. Continuing on my way, the forest begins to thicken telling me I'm going the right way, and soon I come upon the trap door of my special training ground. as I open the door, I am blasted by the staleness and mustiness of the air within. Wheezing from accidentally inhaling some of the old air, I look back to the staircase down to the caves.
"Forgot how much I missed this place,"
"Weren't you literally here a week ago?"
"That was only a week?!"
"Well yeah, you barely even go to school, how do you not keep track of the time between your visits here?"
"I just don't?"
*sigh* "Of course, are we going to train or?"
"I'm thinking of chilling out for a bit, then probably training for the night."
"sounds perfect,"
Now that I was back in the cave system I called the shadow that was following me earlier to try to figure out what it is that the shadow wanted to tell me. The little void separated from my feet but when it brought itself off the ground, it didn't take a form which I thought was very odd. Before I could even ask what the shadow needed, it floated over to me and touched my forehead it then sent me back to the night my quirk showed up. "Why the hell are you showing me this memory?" I asked somewhat nervous because of the pain attached to it. Instead of a vocal answer, I had to watch the fight between my father and I from a 3rd person perspective, unravel and continue until the point I used my quirk. From my free-floating perspective I was able to see that one of the shadows I used to destroy my father happened to be his shadow after he died it seems his shadow began to follow me through the years hiding under my feet. As the flashback finished, I was ripped back to the present. "So uh, you wanna tell me what happened?" My mind was reeling in order to absorb all the information along with having to relive the night that changed my life. "This is my father's shadow, and it seems that it can't speak." "So what're we doing with it?" "We are going to let it keep following us for now." After I released my shadow, my father's sank under my feet again. With them gone I laid down on a bundle of cushions and blankets that my Grandfather helped me get out here before Grandma knew about my little tunneling habit. Laying down for the first time in a couple of days, my eyelids felt like they weighed 20 tons and I passed out.
{TIME SKIP OF APPROXIMATELY 7 HOURS}
"You will not hurt them ever again!"
"And who's going to stop me? Can't be you,"
"I won't let you near them ever!"
I woke up instantly panting and covered in sweat. I looked around myself and saw that the entirety of the shadows within my makeshift bedroom had become giant spikes surrounding me. I dispersed the shadows and couldn't remember what my dream was like. As I managed to calm down, Yoru showed up trying to figure out what happened. "What the hell happened?"
"Bad dream,"
"Yeah, I see that! What was it about?"
"I don't remember,"
"SURE,"
"Look dude, I don't remember the dream, only that at the end I was yelling at someone and had an old doll in my hand."
"Why not just say that instead of I don't know,"
"Leave me alone will you,"
"Fine, but don't you want to know how loud you were screaming, I am pretty sure they heard you in Africa."
