“Here’s your cheesecake!” you said, placing the small white ceramic plate with the sweet, fluffy matter on the table where a girl with rounded glasses sat, her eyes glued onto a book, “Heart of Darkness” as she thanked you softly once you arrived with her order.
With a sigh of pleasure, you walked back towards the counter of the small café, placing the tray on it and getting inside the kitchen behind the counter as you prepared a few other orders. These things were usually done by Kyungseok, but since he wasn’t there at the moment, you were doing it.
It was almost 8pm and there seemed to be a lot more customers compared to yesterday. There were a group of students, enjoying their time with some pastries and a few comics, there were a group of girls reading the celebrity magazines, there was a grandmother reading one of those tragic love stories as she held a warm cup of some strong coffee and a lot more others, just enjoying their healing time in your element.
Looking at them, a dose of elation bloomed inside of you, quite happy to see your little library filled with diversified people making the best use of your little book café.
You let out a deep breath as you finished supplying a few other customers with their orders and finally got the time to have a seat at the main bureau, a few meters away from the café counter where you’d usually sit and read something by yourself, simultaneously attending a few customers who wanted your help with books and novels.
You rested against the chair, slightly stretching your legs as you opened “Outlander” continuing to read it from where you had stopped yesterday. As every minute passed, you found yourself getting more and more engrossed into the fat book.
Soon enough, you sensed that your store was empty again and once you looked at the digital clock, it read “9:43 pm”. You were so drowned into the book, you didn’t even realise it was almost 10 minutes past your closing time.
“Okayyyyy, seems like we gotta call it a day.” You said to yourself, pushing the chair as you stood up. You walked away from the counter, going around the store as you cleaned a few tables and arranged a few shelves. You walked towards the kitchen, washing a few utensils and wiping the counters. You placed all the ceramics inside their respective cabinets and switched off the lights at the café counter and walked back towards your bureau.
“Y/n, are you in here- oh, hey.” You heard the door open as someone walked in, almost like they rushed in. “Jungkook?” you asked, clueless. “Oh, yeah, Hi.” He said, a little sheepish as he entered your café, walking towards your bureau.
“What... What are you doing here?” you asked as he stood facing you, the counter in between you guys. “Oh um I was outside and you weren’t coming out and all your curtains were closed so I couldn’t see you, so I came in to check, and you’re here.” Jungkook rambled on, slipping out a few words as he tried his best not to sound creepy.
You still looked at him, your eyebrows furrowed as you didn’t seem to understand what he was implying. “I... I came to pick you up.” He lowly said, scratching his nape. “What?... You came to pick me up? ... Why?” you asked, confused.
“Well you know... After yesterday, I don’t ... I don’t think you should... You should walk home alone.” He said, his head still low as he failed to look at you while he spoke. “Jungkook...” you said, chuckling. “You’re already so busy, why would you overload yourself with so much already on your schedule.” You asked, locking the drawers of your bureau.
“Y/n, being a CEO of a company isn’t really hard, you know. I just have to sign a couple documents, attend company dinners, make sure everyone’s working and that’s it. So, if you’re concerned that I’m leaving my work behind to come pick you up, I don’t want to disappoint you, but that’s actually not the issue. I have a lot of free time, you see.” Jungkook said, a goofy expression on his face.
“Are you flexing right now?” you asked, narrowing your eyes as both of you snickered, a second where both of you were happy for no reason at all. “So are you coming?” he asked again. You stopped for a second, just trying to process the fact of how you were already feeling comfortable around him. What was happening?
You nodded, a little hesitant as Jungkook smiled. “Just wait here, I have to arrange that table there.” You said, suddenly spotting a messed up table in the corner of the library. Jungkook nodded, placing his elbow on the counter, watching you walk towards the table.
He looked around, observing how calm this place looked. He stepped forward, stuffing his hands inside his pocket as his shoes clinked on the tiles when he began walking towards the many shelves that were situated around the room.
He looked up, observing the tall shelves as he spotted all the books, some untouched, some with a lot of folds in the corners, some super dusty, some overly used and some as good as new. The smell of the books, their covers, their pages, lingered around him, a mix of dry almonds and vanilla flowers. Yes, that’s exactly how it felt.
Waking past a shelf, he saw two fat books placed in one of the racks, leaning against each other. Not really out of curiosity as such, but Jungkook picked them up, somewhat comparing the width of the two.
“If I were you, I’d definitely pick Romeo and Juliet.” He heard a vice come from behind him as he turned around. He looked at you, a questionable expression on his face. He still held the two books “Tale of Tristen and Isolde.” and “Romeo and Juliet.” ,two classic tragic love stories of all time, between his fingers.
You walked towards him, a small smile on your face. “If you’re gonna read any of them, you should definitely go for Romeo and Juliet.” You said, chuckling. You very well knew Jungkook wasn’t really the kind to invest his time in reading books, especially when it was something about tragic love.
“No no, I’m not gonna read them, I was just looking at them.” Jungkook awkwardly said as he placed them back on the shelf. You shook your head, a giggle escaping your lips. “You should try reading sometime.” You said, still mocking him as both of you walked from the isle towards the exit of the library.
Once you were done closing the doors, both you and Jungkook walked down the stairs and he lead you to his car. Taking a seat and clicking on your seatbelt, Jungkook started the engine. “Y/n, what were those two books about?” Jungkook suddenly asked, an aberrant curiosity in his voice.
“They’re both about love. Mostly, how tragic love is... Or you know... It’s like, forbidden love.” You said, turning towards him. “You like reading such stuff?” Jungkook asked again.
You nodded. “They’re so poetic and romantic, it’s really fun to read.” You said, a feeling of joy washing over you. Jungkook nodded. You still hadn’t changed. You were still the same old girl who loved fantasies and delusions. You were still so charming when it came to books and literature.
Jungkook always had a picture of how sparkling your eyes looked every time you spoke about something you loved, which of course, were books. He remembers how you always told him that you wished to have a love story exactly like how it was written in books by authors with wild imaginations.
He knew why he had fallen for you.
“By the way, how did you find my store? I don’t remember telling you where I worked, besides, you found me on the road yesterday.” You asked. “I have my sources.” Jungkook said, grinning. You clicked your tongue as you playfully rolled your eyes.
“Y/n... I actually... I actually have to ask you something...” Jungkook started after a few minutes. You looked at him, waiting for him to go on. “Go ahead, what is it about?” you causally asked. “Y/n... I know I have no right to ask you this... But... But do you think we should... Start over?” he asked, obviously reluctant.
“W-What?” you asked, caught a little off guard. You obviously weren’t expecting that, but a part of you already seemed to melt down when he asked you that. Why was he making you feel this way again. Was it really the right choice to start over with someone like Jungkook? He had already left you once, would you be ready to deal with all of that again?
“You know... Let’s just start over and be friends. I really don’t want to... I really don’t want to loose you.” He said, the sincerity blazing in his voice. You gulped as you slowly nodded. “Yeah... I think...I think that’d be great... Yeah...” you said, nodding adversely.
Jungkook smiled, his whole mind drowning in serenity as he was so thankful for having things go his way. He really wanted to start over with you. He just hoped, things wouldn’t go downhill like how they did in the past.
Jungkook stopped the car right outside your building as he looked at you. “Thanks for the ride Jungkook, I really appreciate it.” You said, a smile on your face as you hurriedly opened the door, ready to get out. “Wait Y/n... I’ll be picking you up tomorrow too, okay? Mostly like everyday.” He said, as you turned around, looking at him over your shoulder.
“W-What?” you asked, confused. “You heard me.” He said, smiling. You closed the door, still blankly staring at him, trying to figure out what had just happened. “Bye.” He said, as he drove off, ready to head back home.
What was happening? Why was everything getting you those old feelings back? Why was everything that he was doing, making your heart flutter? Why was he treating you like this? Were you really THAT vulnerable and THAT gullible? Did you really just let your guard down for someone like Jungkook again?
Walking back towards your flat, you wondered if starting over was really the best choice at the moment. You wondered if you were really ready and mentally prepared for all of that.
What scared you the most was, falling in love.
Falling in love with Jeon Jungkook.
All. Over. Again.
